Fix freezer icing and warm fridge temps by replacing a faulty defrost timer. Typical DIY repair takes 15-30 minutes with basic tools and a multimeter.
Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
The refrigerator was operating in an unusual manner. The freezer would get abnormally cold even when set at the warmest temp on the dial. Then the refrigeration area was too warm. Greg T. • Boulder , MT • March 23, 2014
I took the bottom tray out of the freezer and found the coils iced up severely. I was reasonably sure the defrost timer was the problem and your tech said that was a good possibility. Ordered and replaced timer. (15 minutes) Problem fixed!!! Saved purchasing a new fridge at big bucks. We live over 40 miles from a service center so the cost of having a tech come out is astronomical. Thanks!!!

Water was leaking & then freezing in the bottom of the freezer compartment Ronald S. • Frankfort , IL • December 30, 2014
Replaced the water tube that went from the plastic tubing to the ice cube tray. Found that even though it was the same exact length as the original, there was only an extremely small gap from the end of the tube to a splash board. This may have been the root cause of my problems.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Two shelves in the door of our fresh foods had broken hooks and fell off Paula M. • Keller , TX • March 20, 2017
We ordered the hooks for the shelf that had replaceable hooks. And we ordered the bottom shelf called "Pick off Shelf." The Pick off Shelf was just a replaceable shelf and was no problem. The shelf with the hooks wasn't as easy, but that's because we aren't very "savvy" when it comes to fixing things that come with no directions. The "friendly stories" that were at the bottom of each part that we ordered told the experiences of folks. That was very helpful. We persevered and fixed it. ...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Control board shorted out during drying cycle with a series of loud popping noises creating a blackened corner of the dishwasher door a pungent electircal fire smell and tripped circuit breaker Charles L. • Concord , MA • November 01, 2014
Replaced the control board after removing the inner door liner, plastice board cover and board itself, by removing screws, working various plastic clips/tabs and unclipping wire harnesses from board. most of time was spent cleaning the black soot from the door, which had a terrible burnt electrical/plastic fire smell. Cleaned mold/scale off of as much of the door as I could while in there as well. Removing parts without breaking plastic tabs to hold the new parts was trickiest part.

The ice bucket housing had disintegrated and the motor twisted off Lloyd W. • Streamwood , IL • January 08, 2026
I pulled out the old housing and unplugged the motor. It pretty much came out in pieces.
Remove the plastic from the motor, then had to take a pair of vice grips to hold the spindle in place to remove the auger. Remove what was still attached to the old Housing. Cleaned everything up and put the whole unit back together. The motor looked like it was somewhat cooked but still worked, so I ordered a new motor and auger to replace it. Because this fridge is 24 yrs old, Appliancepartspros...
