How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5579032 / DC97-16350D Washer Support Damper Rod Assembly

Replaced the springs and rods (dampers) on all 4 sides of the washer tub. The new springs do not seem appreciably stronger than the old ones, but the washer works after the replacement. I suspect that some of the plastic bushings that allow the springs to move and ride up and down the rods, get sloppy, so that the tub does not stay centered and throws the clothes out of balance. Easy fix, remove screws that hold brackets that hold top down - behind the washer controls. Remove 4 screws that allow you to remove the access panel behind washer. You can now undo the plugs that go up to the control panel as well as a little (1/4") hose that goes from tub to control panel. Next lift up back side of top of washer, then pry open front lid of washer. Remove top of washer. You can remove the 4 rods/springs with your hands (pull up corner of tub). Might need screwdriver to pry plastic bushing that holds top of rod to side of washing machine frame. Replace one rod at a time, then re-assemble all. Easy Screws that hold on bracket may need a 3/8 ? socket or a better screw driver than I used.

I replaced the four dampening/suspension rods, and have run about ten loads since then and no more DC errors. 

Got on youtube and found out what the problem was (Damper Rods), and how easy to fix it myself. Also ordering the part was so easy. Fast delivery.

The home repair went exactly as shown in the AppliancePartsPros.com video. I ordered parts from them and replaced 4 suspension rods to balance the washer drum. I’m a 61 yo woman and it took me less than 30 minutes. 

Reviewed online videos as well as calling Appliance Parts Pros. The individual with whom I spoke with was extremely helpful, providing diagnostic tips as well as a course of action. I replaced all 4 damper rod/spring assemblies. Problem solved! 

Tried the quick fixes found on Youtube. - center nut wasn't loose, solid bracket brace fix didn't work either. Waste of time. Ran across spring support rods fix, and found some sites offering nonsamsung parts dirt cheap. Decided not to fool around anymore, and ordered 4 Samsung OEM support rods from this site. Watched Youtube video, and saw how easy it was to fix. Parts arrived in 2 days for $10 delivery charge. Washing machine hums like new with the OEM parts. Got our life back. Don't fool around with cheap parts. For $150 we have our washer back, saving a repair guy bill of $500, or a brand new washer for $1100. BIG TIP - only replace one spring rod at a time. Otherwise, the tub sags way down. School of hard knocks. 

Order the suspension springs from AppliancePartsPros. After watching the video they had on changing them, I replaced all four springs. We have had no problem with the DC code and it was a very easy fix. Ordered DC97-16350D.
