I removed the lower panel and unscrewed the filter to drain the washer into a bucket. I was sure the drain wasn’t clogged so I ran water backwards from the drain to the bucket I had under the filter to make sure the drain hose wasn’t clogged. I ran a rinse and spin cycle with the cover off and I could hear the drain pump running. I wasn’t sure how it was supposed to sound, so I unplugged the washer and removed the pump. I used vice grips to remove the two hoses on the assembly, disconnected the plug, and pried up the rubber on the bottom so I could slide it free. I pushed the release tabs and twisted the pump loose from the assembly. I could see the plastic on the impeller was cracked where the fin met the body, so it wasn’t spinning effectively. The replacement was constructed a little different (looked sturdier to me), but installation was easy. The hardest part is getting the clamps off/on the hoses. If you have an eye-bolt I read about a slick way to release the tension with that, but vice grips got the job done for me.
