The Diverter Valve is an OEM part for Bosch dishwashers. This valve directs water flow during different phases of the wash cycle, determining whether water goes to the lower or upper spray arm.

Causes of a bad diverter valve can be mineral buildup causing malfunction, wear and tear of internal components over time, or damage from foreign debris.

Symptoms of a bad diverter valve include:

  • Insufficient or improper water distribution
  • Dirty dishes, especially on the lower rack
  • Extended wash cycle times
  • Dripping or leakage from the valve area

This Bosch part is also compatible with Thermador, Gaggenau some Kenmore models.

Logan for Model Number SHP65T55UC/07

Dishes were not getting clean and pod not dissolving. I rigged the washer so it can run a cycle with door open. I see that the lower spray arm is getting water and so is the sprinkler head at the very top. But the middle spray arm is not getting water or spinning. I have verified water level is good. The water inlet valve and circulation motor are brand new. It looks to be an issue with the diverter. Is there anything you suggest that I can do to confirm before purchasing? Could it also be an issue with the control panel? If I do order the diverter, does part 406 include the motor part 407? Should I just order 406 since the price isn't that different?

1 Answer

Logan, Test to see if there is power to the diverter motor and if there is then it would be recommended to replace the motor. If there is not then the control board would be the issue. I would just go ahead and purchase the assembly as it will be already put together.

P Harrison, There is a motor on the distributor that most likely has failed and would need to be replaced. The part number for the motor is 00615820, The motor will rotate during the wash cycle and disperse the water to the upper or lower spray arms. If the motor has failed in between it will not disperse any water and if it stopped on one setting then it will only do that setting.

Josh, The part that would need to be replaced would be 00751950. The water level would not cause a leak around the diverter.

E15 code when I run a sanitize cycle WITHOUT any dishes to do a "cleanse" on my dishwasher with the Finish Dishwasher Cleaner. I pulled the diswasher out and noticed water in the base. Cleaned the water and then ran the santize cycle again and noticed it leaking water from two spots on the switch motor / water diverter. See in video: https://youtu.be/HgwJQRv5-lY. I re-installed the dishwasher and it doesn't seem to be an issue when run on normal cycle with dishes. I havent verified to see if it leaks during the normal cycle but it sure isnt causing a E15 code. Why would it only leak without dishes? Should I replace the water diverter assembly? Or Is it better to replace the water diverter assembly with the sump too? Thoughts? Thanks, Josh

1 Answer

Josh, It would most likely not be the actual diverter causing this but the seal that would be part of the sump for the diverter. It would be recommended to replace the sump.

I have verified that the water level in the dishwasher is OK. Strangely, I find that the water is heated to about 160 F when the upper spray arm tube at the back of the dishwasher is removed and there will be no error code. When installed, I get E:08. I am thinking that the either the pump is not pumping well enough to handle the extra resistance of the tube or the alternating water distributor is not registering correctly, In either case, the water flow is reduced, but not so much that it can't work when the tube is removed. I am having trouble finding anyone who knows where the flow is sensed and relayed to the control module.

1 Answer

John, The E 08 error code is a low water level inside the heater. With the water level being correct and the unit getting to the proper temperature, this would be a sensor in the heater that would cause this issue and would need to replace the motor for this sensor.

This is a follow-up comment and question to my post a few days ago The suggestion to look at the control module as the source of the problem is reasonable, however, I did replace this already as the first step in my repair efforts several months ago. So, before spending that money again, I am looking for any other possibility. Since the E:08 may indicate a water problem, I have tried running the dishwasher with all spray arms and tubes removed. I find that with all spray components removed, the dishwasher heats the water to 160-164 F and gives an error code E:00. With the tube to the upper spray arm reinstalled, but not spray arms, the error code E:08 returns and the water does not heat. With the upper spray tube removed again and with the lower spray arm installed, the water heats and and E:00 is displayed. I have gone back and forth 4 times now with and without the upper spray tube installed, and the dishwasher works normally every time when the tube is removed. I cannot find any obstruction in the tube. It is very easy to blow air through each of the tubes going the upper spray head and the upper spray arm. Additional point & question: Since it may be a water flow problem, is it possible that either the pump is not pumping as well as it should, but well enough to operate without the extra resistance of the upper spray arm tube? Likewise, if the alternating water distributor aperture plate is not properly oriented, could the water pressure be reduced enough to give the same behavior? The water distributor plate can be seen to be blocking all ports when the dishwasher is off. Contrary to this, a new one that I have on hand has the lower port position open in the unpowered state.

1 Answer

John, the first check to make is the water level in the bottom of the tub after a fill cycle, start the dishwasher, let it fill and wash for 3 to 5 minutes, unlatch the door, and remove the lower rack, the water level should be 1/2 to 3/4 in. deep (level with the top of the course filter opening). E:08 no load in circulation pump / Heat pump detects too low of a water level in the sump. The E:00 code indicates no failures logged in the control board chip. The low water level would account for the other maladies you described. Thanks,

My dishwasher does not heat the water properly, soap does not dissolve, and the middle spray arm barely turns. Error E:08 is found after any wash cycle when error codes are using the special function menu. After running a customer service program test cycle, there is no error found and the water gets much hotter. The circulation pump does run and the heater has the proper resistance. Water fill levels look good. Is there a pressure switch somewhere that could be giving a bad signal? I bought a new pump/heater from APP thinking the old one showed incorrect values for the NTC thermistor and high temperature sensor, but the new one is similar. The new one shows similar values, so I have refrained from installing it until I could check for other possible problems. I understand that if I install it, then it cannot be sent back if it does not fix the problem.

1 Answer

John, According to the error code, this would be a low water fill issue and if the unit is filling properly, the heater is working then this will be a faulty control board that is causing the issue.

Mal for Model Number SMU50E25AU

Hi, I have had some E15 errors over time and finally an earth leakage fault when moisture must have got onto the heat pump. Disassembled it all, dried out heat pump and it tested OK. Removed the sump to see that the seal has been failing - cleaned it all and reseated but just won't keep the water from coming through. Mainly during a hot wash and during the peak vigorous part (I kept the side cover off and swung the control board out of the way to observe). I will order a new sump and I'm OK with that. My problem I seek you guidance on is that during disassembly I got a little carried away and took apart the water distributor and before I could take a photo of the cog/switch layout the cogs fell out. I think I have them back in the right position, but I am looking for a photo or diagram of the layout of the two cogs to reassure myself. I hope you can help. Your videos have been a great help to me. Many thanks

1 Answer

Mal, Unfortunately, there will be no photos showing the cog layout available to be able to send.
