The Cold Control is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It regulates the temperature inside the fridge and freezer compartments by controlling the compressor, evaporator fan, and cooling vents. Proper cooling depends on the cold control operating reliably.

Symptoms of a bad cold control include:

  • Fluctuating temperatures that don't stay consistent
  • The refrigerator or freezer running excessively hot or cold
  • The compressor not turning on at all

Causes of failure can be worn over many years of use or damage to electronic components. Without an accurately functioning control, cooling performance diminishes significantly.

This OEM Frigidaire part can also be used on Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Sears/Kenmore.

Hello Susan, You will want to make sure that the compressor on the unit is running. If the compressor is running but still not cooling then you want to pull the rear cover of the freezer compartment and look for a frost pattern. If no frost pattern then you have an issue with the sealed system. If the compressor is not running then unplug unit and pull start relay off of the compressor. Shake the relay and if it rattles then it would need to be replaced.

Hello Charlie, To change the temp control, open refrigerator door. On the control panel there are 4 - 1/4" hex head screws. Remove screws and disconnect wire harness. Remove old thermostat and install new the same way the old one came out and reinstall.

Hello Jamie. Check and make sure the fan motor inside the freezer is running properly. If so, it has to be a sealed system issue if there is no defrost issue and everything else is good, but does not cool.

Hello Roland. If there was frost all over the coils in the freezer, you have a defrost issue. If there was just a small spot of frost, it is a sealed system issue with the unit. If it covers the entire coils, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Tom, This particular wiring configuration actually has the defrost timer getting its' voltage from the temperature control. The temperature control must be breaking down under the amperage that is pulled by the defrost heater. You are correct n the assumption that the temperature control 241537103 should be replaced.

Hi Alex. There are a few things that cause this issue. Look inside the freezer and at the lower back wall is there frost build up? If so then that is a defrost failure. Usually you need to replace the defrost thermostat part # 5303918549. The defrost heater part # 5303918247 The defrost control part # 215846602. Or is the evaporator fan part # 5303918549 and the condenser fan motor part # 5303918774 turning? Is the condenser coils by the compressor clogged and needing the condenser cleaning brush part # TJ103 ? If the freezer is OK and the fresh food is not then set the controls back to the mid point setting . Make sure the evaporator drain is not clogged and it may have frozen over the cold air ports in front of the drain pan. You will then remove the fresh food controls and un hook the wire connector bringing the controls completely out and then defrosting the frozen holes as you catch the water with towels. Thank You.
