1 Answer Hello Susan, You will want to make sure that the compressor on the unit is running. If the compressor is running but still not cooling then you want to pull the rear cover of the freezer compartment and look for a frost pattern. If no frost pattern then you have an issue with the sealed system. If the compressor is not running then unplug unit and pull start relay off of the compressor. Shake the relay and if it rattles then it would need to be replaced. Read More...

1 Answer Hello Charlie, To change the temp control, open refrigerator door. On the control panel there are 4 - 1/4" hex head screws. Remove screws and disconnect wire harness. Remove old thermostat and install new the same way the old one came out and reinstall. Read More...
Jaime August 25, 2012 for Model Number FRT18L4JW1 Both the refrigerator and the freezer are not cooling down (frig 44deg/freezer 32deg). Frost is present on the freezer coils however no ice buildup or blockage. Defrost timer is cycling properly and frost melts during cycle. Freezer an is also working well. The sealed system seems to be okay as well, the temp on the drier is 86deg. Any thoughts.
1 Answer Hello Jamie. Check and make sure the fan motor inside the freezer is running properly. If so, it has to be a sealed system issue if there is no defrost issue and everything else is good, but does not cool. Read More...
Cathy August 09, 2012 for Model Number FRT18B4AQA The light is on but compressor doesn't come on...it quit suddenly. What is problem? Fuses and resets have been checked.
1 Answer Cathy, The most likely issue, is the compressor start device 216954208 and 5304433579 but you'd want to check for 120 VAC across the blue and red wires on the device to verify power to the compressor from the control 241537103 and timer 215846602 . Thanks Read More...
Roland August 03, 2012 for Model Number 253.6419240 Neither the freenzer nor the refrigerator of my Kenmore appliance reach the correct temperature--both warmer than they should be. Both evaporator and condenser fans are running but just can't get cold enough even with both freezer and refrig controls set for maximum cooling. Did have frost build up at the back of freezer, which I melted using a hair dryer. What should I check first, and how do I do it?
1 Answer Hello Roland. If there was frost all over the coils in the freezer, you have a defrost issue. If there was just a small spot of frost, it is a sealed system issue with the unit. If it covers the entire coils, It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Haddison July 22, 2012 for Model Number GS18HTZCW2 Freezer works ok and has it's own temperature control knob. The fridge at max is not even cold enough. Do I need to replace the temperature/thermostat control? No ice build up anywhere. Thanks for your guide.
1 Answer Hello Haddison. You need to check and make sure the freezer temp is set to the middle and the fan motor 5303918549 is running inside the freezer. If not, you will need to replace the fan motor in the unit. Read More...
Tom July 19, 2012 for Model Number FRT21FG4CW0 My coils in the back of the freezer are freezing up. I put a bowl of water in freezer and it won't freeze. I have replaced the defrost thermostat AP215013, defrost timer AP2111929, defrost heater AP2150162, but I still have the same problem. Should I replace the temperature control, AP2151609? Thanks, Tom
1 Answer Hello Tom, This particular wiring configuration actually has the defrost timer getting its' voltage from the temperature control. The temperature control must be breaking down under the amperage that is pulled by the defrost heater. You are correct n the assumption that the temperature control 241537103 should be replaced. Alex June 23, 2012 for Model Number FRT21P6CSB4 My fridge is not getting cold enough with the setting all the way up and the freezers working fine. What could it be , temperature control ?
1 Answer Hi Alex. There are a few things that cause this issue. Look inside the freezer and at the lower back wall is there frost build up? If so then that is a defrost failure. Usually you need to replace the defrost thermostat part # 5303918549. The defrost heater part # 5303918247 The defrost control part # 215846602. Or is the evaporator fan part # 5303918549 and the condenser fan motor part # 5303918774 turning? Is the condenser coils by the compressor clogged and needing the condenser cleaning brush part # TJ103 ? If the freezer is OK and the fresh food is not then set the controls back to the mid point setting . Make sure the evaporator drain is not clogged and it may have frozen over the cold air ports in front of the drain pan. You will then remove the fresh food controls and un hook the wire connector bringing the controls completely out and then defrosting the frozen holes as you catch the water with towels. Thank You.
