Symptoms of a faulty Freezer Temperature Control include:

  • Freezer temperature fluctuations or inability to maintain a consistent cool temperature
  • Freezer becoming too warm or not cold enough

For Frigidaire Freezer Temperature Control (Part Number: OEM17847765)

Steve for Model Number 253.54703405

My compressor and compressor fan are not starting up. The fan inside the freezer is working fine but since compressor never starts up there is zero cooling in the refrigerator. I checked for voltage at the relay and there is none whatsoever. I see two cold control thermostats in the refrigerator. One for freezer 5304496561 and second for refrigerator side 241537104. I can't figure out which one of these two send voltage to the compressor? Please help!!

1 Answer

Hello Steve, thank you for contacting AppliancePartsPros.com It is unlikely that both of those thermostats would go bad, but you can test them for continuity to see if one of them is remaining open all the time. I would suspect that the adaptive defrost control board 5303918476 has failed. This board receives voltage and input from each of those thermostats and controls the compressor run time. Unfortunately, the adaptive defrost control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available for purchase.

Jorge, This issue would be caused by a damper door that is sticking open. The part number that would be required will be 5304482075 and unfortunately has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available.

Brandon, It would be recommended to check for any type of air leak which would be the most likely cause for the unit to get frosting in the freezer compartment. Check around the door seals, the ice door and where the water line comes in from the back of the unit to the icemaker.

Harold, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty start device and if the start device does not correct the issue then the compressor would be faulty.

Richard for Model Number PLHS267ZAB5

I recently relocated this fridge to the basement. It was in perfect order prior to move. Once located and reassembled, I noticed that the Freezer was only cool. 5 degrees above freezing and the same was for the fridge compartment. The compressor is running and so is the evaporator fan. The condenser coils have also been cleaned and there is sufficient ventilation in the area. The temp knobs have been positioned on. After 5 days, of increasing the cool (allowing for adjustment), the feezer section is still not dropping below 5 degrees. I have removed the panel in the freezer and noticed that 1 of th the evaporator coils (copper tubes) coming from the defrost heater assembly is frosted over., but only at the TOP of the assembly. The coils that snake through the defrost assembly are room temperature. I'm trying to pinpoint the cause and source. Happy to send through a photo of what I am dealing with.

Richard, From what you are saying a couple of things may have happened. If the unit was laid to far back during moving it the oil from the compressor could have been pushed into the system thus creating a blockage in the system. Other than that make sure the condenser fan is running. If a blockage has occurred then a sealed system repair is necessary and a certified refrigeration tech is needed.

Hello William. If the entire coils are not frosting, then the unit has sealed system failure and you will need an HVAC tech to come out and repair the unit. The evaporator should have an even frost pattern on it.

Alice, The cold control 5304496561 does work control the freezer side so will control the compressor via the defrost control board. This issue will either be the board sticking in defrost or a faulty thermostat.

Mike for Model Number FWC425GSO

Hello, I picked up a wine fridge and it was running/cooling just fine. Brought it home as carefully as possible (upright), when carrying into the house it was not 100% upright, but was for the most part. I set it in place and plugged in, sounded like the compressor was trying to start - but then nothing. I read that it's a good idea to let the fridge sit unplugged for a while so I tried this for a few hours. Plugged in again and then it worked - compressor came on, fridge cooled for a while. Now it has stopped again. Not sure what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Mike. If the compressor is running and the unit is not cooling, then the sealed system is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Jeff, The cold control is a good possibility, But your first check should be at the auto damper on the left side top corner of the refrigerator compartment. Turn the control knob to the left until it clicks and turns the compressor off, you should then hear the damper motor run and close the damper door, If not remove the control assembly, remove the damper assembly and check for damaged linkage or stripped gears. Check and make sure there's nothing on the top shelf, that may be directing the cold air away from the control temperature bulb, causing the refrigerator to run too cold.
