Hello Luckey, You may want to check the fuse on the control board for being bad. If you have no lights, fans or any type of power going into the unit then this is most likely the problem. This would require replacing control board.

Hello Wade, The run capacitor normally would not be the cause of the compressor not running. The start relay would be the most likely suspect. You would want to check the start relay for burn marks or melted spots on the casing.

Hello Paul, Check the start relay 5304426651 to see if you see any burn or melted looking areas on it. This is more than likely what will cause compressor to not come on and if the start relay is good then you would have a bad compressor.

Hello Jimmy, This sounds like you have a bad start relay. Unplug the unit and slide the start device off of the side of the compressor. If it rattles when you shake it, the ceramic disk in the start relay has shattered and the start device 216954236 requires replacement.

Hello, This sounds like the control isn't resetting properly. The run capacitor would have nothing to do with this or it wouldn't start after it shuts off when the thermostat is satisfied. If the unit has no electronic control, the issue will be with the temperature control or the start device. I could go into better detail if a model number had been listed.

Kevin for Model Number Frigidaire UFD-18-63

I have a very old (1963) upright Frigidaire freezer that has begun to have problems. It has started to click every couple of minutes and compressor isn't coming on. The clicking is coming from a black box just behind and to the right of the thermostat control knob at the lower front right of freezer. Is this the start relay and if so, is it possible to replace it? I'm not sure even how to remove it - seems to have a metal bar/wire running down its center.

Hello Cloud. Check and make sure the timer is not stuck in defrost by turning the timer and advancing it. If not, you may have a bad cold control 5303300027 and it is not starting the unit to run. Test for voltage going out of the control to the compressor and fan motors. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
