Phil S February 11, 2018 for Model Number GLER642AS3 Our dryer seems to get louder the longer it runs, if you shut if off and let it cool down then restart it quietens down. I have replaced the rear drum hub/spindle, idler assembly, and the blower assembly in the past. I believe it is coming from the motor, but not positive. Is this a noise the motor can cause? Thanks
1 Answer Phil, It is likely that the bearing on the motor is going bad and when it heats up it will cause the noise. Read More...
Jim August 22, 2016 for Model Number 417.93042203 I replaced the motor in a Frigidaire model 417.93042203 because of a noise that sounded like a dry or rough running bearing. Now with the new motor there is a vibration noise. I've taken it apart several times and found nothing. I ran it with the drum out to make sure the noise was coming from the motor and it was. Is it possible the motor is unbalanced?
1 Answer Hello Jim. No, it sounds like something is either loose or there is lint build up in the blower wheel. I would check every part and clean the blower wheel really good and make sure nothing is broke on it. Read More...
Danielle January 18, 2016 for Model Number CRER5700AS1 We got all the way to the step where you remove the motor from the blower, but the blower won't turn when we try to loosen the bolt that is 7/8". Because we can't get the 7/8" bolt to loosen we're unable to take the motor off. Any other recommendations on how to loosen that bolt so the blower part will turn? Is it possible that the motor seized or that the motor isn't our problem after all? When I put in a load I heard a weird noise and smelt a burning smell, but the drum wasn't spinning. At first we replaced the starter switch. And now we're trying to replace the motor. But maybe it's something else? Can't tell because the blower won't turn. Please help. Thank you kindly.
1 Answer Danielle, The first thing that you will want to check is to make sure that the motor is not the issue by making the unit so that it thinks the door is closed and disconnect the belt from the motor and turn the unit to the on position. See if the motor starts with the belt disconnected. If it does then the motor is not the issue and it would be more likely to be a faulty bearing. If the motor won't turn then yes it would be the issue and in order to get the blower wheel loose you will need to make sure that the motor shaft is not able to turn and once locked in place then you would want to try to turn the blower wheel off. Some of these are left threaded so you would need to remove clockwise and reinstall counter clockwise. Read More...
James August 08, 2014 for Model Number 417.64182300 The dryer runs but doesn't heat. I've checked continuity on all the thermostats, the heat indicator switch and heating element. Even though the motor runs, could it be the motor? Any other possibilities?
1 Answer Hello James, This can be the timer, the harness, the high limit thermostat, the cycling thermostat, the thermal cutoff, the heating element, or the centrifugal switch in the motor assembly and in some cases, the thermal fuse. Since it is a Kenmore, we cannot pull the specific wiring diagram but these are common to most models in this general configuration. Read More...
Frank July 24, 2014 for Model Number FSG447GHS0 The dryer will not start. It makes no noise whatsoever when you turn the start switch. The first time it happened my wife said she swears she smelled smoke (?). I have tested the start switch and the door switch, both have continuity when activated. I could not locate a thermal fuse within the cabinet. Is it likely that the motor has failed?
1 Answer Hello Frank, It could be the motor, but you need to test the fuse and door switch first. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Buck June 28, 2014 for Model Number fridgidaire FSE447GHS0 My dryer started making a clicking noise at end of cycle. A lot of loads were run during the day. Then I found that there were electrical sounds whether the dryer was off or on, random ones. I cut the breakers. Now when I turn breaker back on dryer makes humming/buzzing noise, even if off, even when door is open. There is no longer the clicking noise, just constant humming, but the normal end of cycle buzzer is back when manually turned there. First I suspected timer, then motor because of the buzz like bearings gone out, then door switch since noise is never off even with door open. I'm really not sure now. The motor turns freely. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Buck, I would check the centrifugal switch in the motor 131560100 first since this would supply 120Vac from L2 to the internal circuitry. If this tests good I would next check for an element 131553900 shorted to ground. This is the sort of problem that is best chased through the harness with a test meter so parts are not arbitrarily thrown at the appliance. Read More...
Donna March 05, 2014 for Model Number GLEQ2152ES1 When you hit the start button on any cycle it makes a humming noise. The starter circuit on the motor doesn't work.
1 Answer Donna, Aside from making sure that there is nothing causing the drum to seize and not let the dryer motor turn it, the start winding on the motor would be faulty and you would need a new motor 131560100. Read More...
Anna February 08, 2014 for Model Number AEQB6400FS0 Even on a first time of the day use, the dryer will shut off after 2 minutes and the 3 lights will flash on auto cycle. I press cancel and start and it starts right up and then stops again. I tried other cycles and temperatures and it is the same. It looks as if it is working now, but what could be the underlining problem? I was told the high limit thermostat and I was also told it could be the motor. Which could it be?
1 Answer Hello Anna, This will most likely be a poor electrical connection between either the main board and the speed controller board or a connection between the speed controller board and the main drive motor. You should open the unit and disconnect each connection and reconnect them one at a time and pull the tech sheet from the brown envelope while in there and run the unit through the diagnostic cycle. Be sure to put the tech sheet back so it will be there if needed again. Read More...
Rj November 18, 2013 for Model Number GSG746RFSO I need to replace the motor and belt on my Gibson gas dryer. How do I do this?
1 Answer Hello RJ. You can perform the motor removal and replacement with basic hand tools, and a set of socket wrenches. Here are your basic instructions : Removing the top panel: 1. The top panel is held in... more place in the front by four plastic pins and two metal tabs. In the rear by two screws.2. Remove the two screws, slide the top back about 1/2 inch and lift the top off. Removing the console drip rail: 1. Remove the top panel. 2. Remove the 2 screws, one at each end, that hold the rail to the console back panel. 3. Lift the edge of the console and pull the rail back. Removing the front panel: 1. Disconnect the dryer from electrical supply and remove the top panel. 2. Unplug the two harness plugs and release the ground wire. 3. Remove the 2 screws holding the drip rail to the console and side panel. 4. Remove one screw from each side, located about 6 inches down from the top, that holds the front panel to the side panel. 4. Release the clips holding the front panel to the side panels and gently lean the panel forward. 5. Lift the panel off the bottom clips. Releasing the dryer belt: 1. Remove the access panel in the back of the unit. 2. Push the idler pulley to the right and slip the belt off the motor pulley. Removing the drum: 1. Disconnect the dryer from electrical supply. 2. Remove the top and the front panels. 3. Release the belt from the motor. 4. Use the belt to raise rear of the drum to release the ball from the hitch and move the drum out the front.1. Disconnect the dryer from electrical supply and remove the drum. 2. Unplug the harness from the motor and remove the idler assembly. 3. Unscrew the blower wheel from motor shaft(counterclockwise direction). 4. Release the front motor lock from the blower housing. 5. Release the spring hold down on the rear of the motor and lift the motor out. It sounds more involved than it is. Read More...
Jimmy September 09, 2013 for Model Number GLER341AS2 My dyrer is about 8 yrs old and started making a loud humming noise after about 5 minutes of running. We turned it off and let it cool down then restarted it and it sounded fine until about 5 minutes and sound returned. I took it all apart and cleaned 8 yrs of dust and lint out of it hoping it would help. After putting back together, I started it up and after a few minutes the sound returned. Do you think the bearings and/or motor need to be replaced?
1 Answer Jimmy, Normally when the bearings on a unit go out there will be a squealing type of noise. It is a possibility if it is more of a type of vibration that it could be a bad idler pulley that is causing the noise or it could be the windings of the motor. With having the unit turned off and then once it has a chance to cool down that it could be the motor but you will want to check the pulley and blower wheel. Read More...
