Questions & Answers

For Ge Refrigerator Main Control Board (Part Number: OEM21564309)

1 Answer

Wally, You're on target. The dim, blinking lights and no operation of the dispenser indicates a weak circuit on the main control board(mother board) WR55X10942C on the back of the refrigerator. If you press and hold the paddle long enough, chances are the compressor will also shut down. This is due to an issue in the control board circuitry.

Hello Michael. Either the main control board is bad or the compressor is bad on the unit. If the relay on the board is clicking, replace the main board on the unit.

I'm gonna make this easy for anyone to read. I've spent hours online reading other people's refrigerator problems, and I think a bullet point format is better than long paragraphs. Here are the problems I've identified with my GE side-by-side refrigerator. They span several weeks of observation: 1) Melted ice cubes in freezer bucket 2) Freezer slide-out trays with frozen water that came from the melting ice 3) Top shelf of freezer is above freezing point 4) Food in lower sections of freezer are all frozen 5) Top shelf of refrigerator is over 40 degrees Fahrenheit 6) Bottom drawer of refrigerator is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit and freezes the food Things I've done to diagnose or attempt to fix the issue: 1) Replaced evaporator fan 2) Replaced evaporator thermistor 3) Checked resistance of all 4 thermistors by doing the cup of water and ice test and reading from the disconnected J1 connector -- got 16.3K for each one 4) Inspected damper door and confirmed working 5) No significant amount of frost in coils Current situation: 1) Freezer and refrigerator are both set to 5 2) Ice maker is off to prevent melted ice issue 3) Evaporator fan runs from time to time 4) There is air flow between freezer side and refrigerator side 5) Random checks still show the top section of refrigerator getting too warm and the bottom section getting too cold 6) I stopped checking the freezer temps (my taylor thermometer stopped working). Instead, I let the icemaker make a few ice cubes before turning it off again - I'm guessing they will melt eventually but not sure when At this point I am thinking it is the motherboard, but if it is I want to understand what exactly is happening. Is it due to the board not responding correctly to what the thermistors are registering? What kind of tests can I do on it to make sure it's faulty before ordering a replacement?

1 Answer

Hello Dino. Yes, based on the information you provided, it sounds like the mother board will need to be replaced.

Mike, We do not offer the relay as a separate part and do not recommend replacing just the relay, although it is you choice to try. It is recommended to replace the complete board though.

Hello Judi. It sounds like the temp sensors WR55X10025 may be bad in the unit. It sounds like the damper and board are working if it cools properly on 2.

Robert P for Model Number GE Profile Artica PSS25NGNA BB, S/N MD431095

My refridgerator was not cooling. I performed all diagnostics on fridge controls and everything checked out. LEDs worked according to instructions. I removed the motherboard and it had a burn mark with a burn mark on the cabinet. I just installed this new board from Appliancepartspros.com. It looks as the the freezer is now starting to cool. The fridge side light does not come on and it looks as though it is not cooling. I checked the bulb and it works. The temp LED control panel will not go into diagnositc mode and either shows 37 degrees on fridge temp control, 0 degrees on freezer controls, or 65 for both. I would appreciate your help.

1 Answer

Robert, Based on the information it sounds as though the display PCB is faulty caused by the main control board going out.

Steve G. for Model Number PSS29NHMDCC

Compressor is not cooling or running. It has no power going to the compressor at the C terminal. The evaporator fan and the condenser fan are running. Everything inside the refrigerator is working. I can jump L1 to the C terminal and make the compressor run. I can't find a wiring diagram. Is there another control that could keep the compressor off or is the circuit board bad? It has a blue connector on the circuit board that says Line-Defr-Comp. It has power at the Line connection but no power coming out of the circuit board at the Comp connection. Is it a bad circuit board?

1 Answer

Hello Steve, If the condenser fan motor is running, you either have a bad overload or the harness is bad. You see, on a standard compressor assembly as you have, when power is supplied to the fans, it is also supplied to the compressor. If you jump a wire from the hot wire to the condenser and put it on the compressor at the overload, the compressor will operate as designed. You have either lost connection at a spade connector or the wiring harness has a bad wire in it.

Harry for Model Number PSS26MSWA SS

The water dispenser on my GE side-by-side (Model # PSS26MSWA SS) is not working (makes a "brrrrrrr....." kind of noise and only spurts out a few drops). I have replaced the water filter and the water valve. Water supply pressure is good. Disconnected supply tube before it enters freezer door and there was no flow there either. Ice maker and all other functions operate normally. I think the relay on the control board is bad and the board needs to be replaced. Do you agree or am I overlooking something?

1 Answer

Harry, You will want to check the voltage to the water valve when the dispenser is pressed to make sure that you are getting a constant 120 vac. If it is pulsing then the control board would be the issue with the unit. Part number for the control board is WR55X10942C.
