This magnetron generates the microwave energy that heats and cooks food in a microwave oven. Replacing a failed magnetron restores heating performance so your microwave can again cook and reheat reliably. What it does

  • Converts high-voltage electrical energy into microwave radiation used to heat food
  • Common symptom: microwave runs but does not heat or heats weakly
  • A failed magnetron can trip fuses or circuit breakers inside the oven
What's included One magnetron (single unit) Install notes
  • Disconnect power and verify the appliance is unplugged before service
  • High-voltage components (magnetron, capacitor, transformer) can hold lethal charge — discharge the capacitor and follow safety procedures
  • Use proper replacement hardware and gasketing as required; secure mounting and shielding per OEM instructions

Hello Jerry, The disc that you are referring to would be the thermostat WB27X10166 and just mounts to the side of the magnetron. It regulates temp of magnetron to not allow it to overheat.

My GE microwave has failed and all indications point to the magnetron. Based on reviews of this failure I'd like to replace both the magnetron and high voltage diode AP2026385. Magnetron part # AP4564705 appears to show two diodes included; are these different from the high voltage piece mentioned above, or is this included in the magnetron kit? Do I need both? I haven't taken the unit off the wall yet and can't view the interior for reference. Thanks!

Steve, A complete model number would solve the issue. However, based on the base model and a few similar units, it appears that the magnetron on most, if not all versions of that microwave has been substituted to WB27X10735. We're pretty confident this particular part will fit and operate properly in your unit as well. Thanks

Hi Daron. The magnetron/stirrer kit part # WB49X10226 is an upgraded kit. When replacing the magnetron, carefully look at the frame area surrounding the tip especially. If you find any bare unpainted nicks or missing paint then use microwave touch up paint part # TJ98QBP0301. It is good to check the diode part # WB27X1160 and the capacitor part # WB27X10240 as they are directly in the circuit as well. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Thank You.

Hi Tim. While replacing the magnetron did you reuse the magnetron thermostat that was mounted on the side of the magnetron ? Remove the upper grill and the upper control panel cover. Then remove the control panel upper screw. Lift up and out on the control assy. Mark and remove the wires and carefully lay aside. Then look at the fan electrical connections to see if they are unhooked or loose. This will overheat parts. Have you installed the upper stirrer blade correctly w/cHi Tim. Is there a warranty on this mag? I have to GE 1600's that have each had the mag replaced along with the stirrer. One was replaced about 5 years ago and had been in service since. Its twin was replaced about 1 year afterwards, tested good and sat in storage. About 9 months ago the 1st one failed again so the backup was put into service. This one only lasted 9 months before failing. Apparently this design has some waveguide issues. New stir plates (new design) were installed on each. As mentioned, one didn't even last a year. Thanks.

Hi Paul. No it is not recommended to interchange parts, especially a high voltage one. This kit part # WB49X10226 has more parts that will update your model so it is designed better. Thank You.
