The Condenser Fan Motor is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This fan motor circulates air in the fridge, helping to cool the compressor and condenser coils for better temperature control. It also evaporates extra water in the drain pan, stopping problems from water buildup.

Symptoms of a failing condenser fan motor include:

  • The refrigerator running hotter than usual
  • Loud noise or rattling sounds coming from the back of the refrigerator
  • The refrigerator cycling on and off more frequently or for longer periods

Causes of condenser fan motor failure typically include wear and tear from continuous use, dust and debris accumulation obstructing fan movement, or electrical issues such as faulty wiring or capacitor problems.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Note: This is a (12-volt DC) fan motor. For the (115-volt AC) fan motor, order part number WR60X10220.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Condenser Fan Motor (Part Number: OEM12797880)

1 Answer

Chris, The condenser fan receives its voltage from the same supply as the compressor. The only possibility since the fan is new would be a wiring issue in the harness. Check for any visual damage to the harness also. [EX. burnt wire, damaged connector.]

I replaced the control board because the compressor would come on intermittently and after inspecting the control board I noticed a burned spot on the board. After replacing the board, the compressor came on but the condenser fan did not, so I assumed that the fan was bad and immediately unplugged the refrigerator to avoid any damage to the new board, and ordered a new fan. I received the new fan, and it does not come on either. Again, I unplugged it within a few minutes. Isn't the condenser fan supposed to run all the time that the compressor is running?

1 Answer

Hello Chad, The condenser fan motor should run the entire time that the compressor runs. This is most likely either a harness issue or an issue with the main board WR55X10942C. Since the board has been replaced you should test for the voltage at th4e board and at the fan motor. If not at the fan motor but is present at the board, the issue will be the harness. If the voltage is not at the board either, the issue is the new board.

My fridge stop working after I cleaned the condenser coil with a vacuum cleaner. I checked and I have 120 volts into unit and on the mother board. I purchased a new mother board from your company and plugged it in and still nothing. I disconnected the condenser coil motor wiring harness and the damper motor wiring and still nothing. Also there is no display on the front of the fridge where the temperature adjustment is at. I then disconnected the wiring harness on the mother board which controls the condenser motor and the damper motor and the compressor started to work and the front display was working. I had both motor wiring harness disconnected when I pulled the wiring harness off the mother board when everything worked. There seems to be a short in the wiring or something else that I cant find. Could the thermistor be grounded out or another component be grounded that cause the relay to trip and shuts off power to the compressor?

1 Answer

Raymond, There is a possibility of a wiring issue but you will want to check to make sure that the connector was plugged into the correct spot on the control board. If it was then there would be a wiring issue.

David, Unfortunately we do not have a rating of how fast the condenser fan motor will turn but should be faster than 60 rpm.

Jim, The first thing you will want to do is check to make sure that the instructions that came with the control board were followed. If they were and install is proper then the fan motor would likely be the issue with the unit.

Hello Zeno, This is most likely the evaporator fan motor in the back of the freezer compartment. I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Our fridge stopped cooling and I checked the defrost heater and it was bad and the thermistor in the fresh food side tested at 12 ohms. Meanwhile I manually defrosted the coils and got the fridge cold again until the unit eventually stopped and now when the unit is plugged in I hear a relay click on the main board and the pump for the water dispenser kick on. The freezer light doesn't turn on either (I am not sure if this problem is new). It appears the defrost heater has possibly been replaced once before. Is this a problem with the main board?

1 Answer

Andrea, With the issue that you are having, this issue sounds like it would be caused by a possible faulty control board.

Cristianne for Model Number GSZ25WGSA WW

Hello, I have a side by side GE model GSZ25WGSA WW. I know it is an oldie!! When I look for condenser motors compatible with my model it give this reference AP4265957. However when I double check in the box on the right bellow to see model compatibility it says it is not compatible. Which one should I believe? Could you let me know if this motor is compatible with my model? Sorry but I am bit lost with this and don't want to buy the wrong motor. The noise has really become very annoying so I want to get it fixed as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your assistance! Best regards, Cristianne

I got this replacement motor but the motor that it is replacing is almost 3/4 inch deeper between front where the blade shaft comes out of the motor to the back of the motor that mounts to the rubber bushing on the back bracket making the space between the two brackets too wide to hold the motor. The original motor was replaced with this motor per the GE site. I also note on the GE site that the original back bracket has a different replacement from the original. Do I also need to order the new back bracket or are there some sort of bushing that adjust for the smaller size.
