This microwave thermostat is a temperature-sensitive safety switch that helps protect the unit from overheating. When the preset limit is reached, it interrupts power to the affected circuit to help prevent damage and erratic shutdowns.

  • Monitors temperature at its mounting location and opens the circuit if overheating is detected
  • Helps protect internal components from excessive heat
  • Common symptoms of a failed thermostat include: unit shuts off during cooking, won't start until it cools down, or has no power/no heat due to an open safety
  • Replace if the original tests open when it should be closed
What's included: One thermostat Install notes:
  • Disconnect power by unplugging the unit or switching off the circuit breaker before servicing
  • Microwaves contain a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a dangerous charge; only qualified persons should service and discharge the capacitor
  • Note wire locations before removal and transfer connections firmly to the new thermostat
  • Mount the thermostat securely and in the same position to ensure proper temperature sensing

For Ge Thermostat (Microwave) (Part Number: OEM6078318)

Andy for Model Number GE Microwave Model JVM1441BD003

I own a GE Microwave Model JVM1441BD003. The entire unit died when I closed the door after placing something inside for heating. No lights, nothing. Checked power to the unit and it's good. I checked the 20 amp fuse behind the top grill and found that it was open. I shorted the fuse terminal, plugged in the power cord and front display turned on along with inside light. Now, I unplugged the unit and went on to test the two thermostats easily accessible behind the key pad. The one on the left read closed, but other one on the wall towards the bottom right shows open. The part which is open has "NT101 and KIE " stamped on it between the two prongs and it looks like part# WB27X10195. Is it supposed to be normally open? Do I have the correct part# (WB27X10195)? I want to order this part only if it is bad. Please help.

Andy, This is normal. One of the thermostats is supposed to read normally closed and the other normally open. If the unit powered on when you bypassed the buss fuse then you would need to replace the fuse.

Eric H for Model Number JVM3670SK04

HI Team - Just got some good help from your chat agent "Chenoa C," so kudos there...hopefully I have a good part on the way and will have a working Microwave again soon. Here's my question: when looking for the TCO's, what is considered the "Hood" TCO vs. a Cavity TCO??? Here's why I ask - I believe the one that popped on me is the cavity TCO which on my GE Profile JVM3670SK04 shows as part number WB27X10810. The "bad" one was open at room temp, and when I shorted the circuit during troubleshooting, the m.w. oven came right back on. So I would assume this part should be normally closed. But the unit you shipped me (in a bag labelled wb27x10810) did the exact opposite. It is "open" at room temp, and when held over a gas flame would *snap* closed. Remove heat and wait, and it would *snap* back open again. Exactly the opposite of what I need! Is this the way this part ~should~ behave? Or did I get one in an incorrect bag? Thanks,

Hello Eric. This part is working correctly. The hood thermostat mounted on the RH side duct in the control compartment should close at 158°.

Eric L for Model Number PVM1870DM1BB

I have a GE Profile Microwave Model PVM1870DM1BB. Initially the microwave would lose power when the door was closed. When the door was opened the power would return and after the clock was reset the vent fan and light would work. Once the door was closed power would again be lost. I initially replaced all of the door switches as you recommended did not solve the problem. While working on the switches I notice one of the connectors for the thermostat was blackened. I have since replaced the thermostat but am concerned that it shorted or it was somehow compromised in the first place. What could cause the thermostat to fail? Could another component's failure cause the thermostat connector to short/blacken? The microwave works for the time being but do not want to have an internal fire.

Eric, The switches failing would cause the thermostat to fail. By changing all the switches then this would have corrected the issue along with replacing the thermostat.

Dan, This issue would be caused by a bad control board WB27X10382 not allowing the unit to turn the fan or the light off. Sounds like the contacts are stuck.

David for Model Number jvm2070sh01

Was using the timer function to time baking in the oven below the microwave, not the microwave itself, when I checked on it the entire unit was dead. No lights, nothing. Checked power to the unit and it's good. Checked the two 20 amp fuses and they are good. Thinking the heat from the stove may have triped a thermostat I checked and found one in the lower part of the unit that tested open on multimeter test. It's listed in the critical parts list that came with the microwave as GE part number WB27X1127. It looks like the one you show as WB27X10195 but I don't want to order the wrong part. I can't really tell form the diagram which one it is (the unit has 4 different thermostats). The part has "NT101 and KIE " stamped on the face between the two prongs. Help?

1 Answer

David, There are two TCO's That don't reset automatically, in your microwave. The hood TCO WB27X10194 which is located near the base of the microwave, in the area of the fan assembly. And the cavity TCO WB27X10195 which is located on the top of the microwave cavity. Based on your post, it seems like you need the hood TCO. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Ray. Check and make sure you did not knock a wire off the unit. If not, you may have a bad control board WB27X10257 and it will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
