Justin for Model Number DLE4870W

My dryer won't heat. I've tested the safety and high limit thermostat and they both show continuity below 1 Ohm of resistance. I tested the heating element and refereed to the Tech Sheet for guidance. Between prongs 1 and 2 it shows 20 Ohms (supposed to be between 18-22). Between prongs 1 and 3 it shows 21 Ohms (supposed to be between 18-22). Between prongs 2 and 3 it shows 44 ohms and it is supposed to be between 9-11 ohms of resistance here. Due to the high ohms of resistance between prongs 2 and 3 it says to replace the heating element. Does that seem correct? Most of what I've read online is if it's below 50 ohms it should work fine. I have checked the voltage to the dryer and I am getting 120/240, so that shouldn't be the issue. Ducts are clean. Thanks!

Justin, Based on the tech sheet saying if it is at 44 ohms then it would be best to replace the heating element.

Doug, You would want to test the thermal fuse and thermostats on the unit to make sure that they are good. This would be the most likely causes of failure. Also check to make sure that the venting is clean and clear. If the thermal fuse on the heater is blowing then it may be the heater relay on the control board being stuck closed causing the heater to stay on.

Dave F for Model Number DLE5977B

i own a LG DLE5977B, that tripped my breakers a few times. it was very hot to the touch (back panel) when it was in normal drying cycle which uses medium heat. this happened a few times, i allowed it to cool each time prior to restarting after resetting the breaker. Now it is working and not getting as hot as it was, i am running it on high and it is not tripping breaker anymore. it feels warm but i dont think it is hot as it should be on high. i have check for blockages and found none. i would expect a thermostat or sensor might be at fault possibly, what parts should i check out?

1 Answer

Dave, The sensor would be the most likely cause for the unit to overheat. Also check for rollers to make sure that they are not binding which will cause a drag on he motor and cause the motor to overheat and shut off. You would want to test the thermistor and the thermostats to make sure that they are good.

Hello Larry. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly.
