The Diverter Motor Assembly is an OEM part for LG dishwashers. It is a critical component used to control the direction of water flow within the dishwasher, ensuring that water is properly diverted between the different spray arms during various wash cycles.

Symptoms of a failing Diverter Motor Assembly include:

  • Inadequate cleaning of dishes, with some areas remaining dirty
  • Unusual noises, like humming or clicking, indicating the diverter motor is struggling to operate
  • Error codes displayed on the dishwasher that relate to water distribution problems
  • Water not reaching all spray arms

Causes of a bad diverter motor can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues such as faulty wiring or motor failure, and mechanical obstructions or debris that prevent the diverter from moving smoothly.

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Tim for Model Number LDF7920ST

We noticed that our dishwasher that started making a relatively loud noise that cycled in and out during the wash cycle and that our dishes weren't getting as clean as normal. I checked a few things and it appears that the middle and upper spray arm aren't moving. It does appear that the lower arm is moving and working properly. All spray arms are free free of debris and water can pass through them freely. Based on a bit of research it appears that the diverter motor may be the issue but I haven't seen anyone else mention noise as a side effect of a faulty diverter motor. I also don't have an error code on the machine. I'm just wondering if there could be a bigger issue I may not be considering such as a faulty pump before I replace the diverter motor.

Tim, it would be recommended that the diverter is inspected for any debris that may be preventing it from rotating freely. The diverter can create a noise if this occurs and if there is debris, the diverter check valve MJX32862501 would need to be inspected for any damaged sections to include the motor shaft connection.

Tim, if there is not water in the base pan under the dishwasher, the failure would likely be in the main control AGM76429503 as it should be sending voltage to the valve.

Christophe for Model Number LDS5040WW

After replacing a failed diverter motor on an LG LDS5040WW dishwasher, I noticed that the new diverter motor does not stop rotating, even after pressing the POWER button (off). I can hear the micro switch continuously click and unclick 3 times per minute. The only way to make it stop is to open the front door or pull the breaker off in the house. Is this normal? I checked that the micro switch is functional (continuity only when button pressed). What could be the cause of this? I am afraid that the diverter motor will wear out prematurely in such a situation. It may actually be the reason why it failed in the first place. Thanks.

1 Answer

Christopher, This would not be a normal issue and either you have a wiring issue or the main control board that has a stuck relay causing the motor to continuously run.

Rachel, there may possibly be a loose wire that is making just enough of a connection to operate the motor. You will want to disconnect the power from the dishwasher and check the wiring to ensure that each connection is secured. From there, if the error continues, then there may be an issue with the control board [EBR73739203].

Liam for Model Number LDS5540ST

Recently our LG5540ST Dishwasher has stopped cleaning the top rack, Bottom rack has lots of pressure/gets clean Top rack Arm spins but dishes are not cleaned. Was suggested in another forum that replacing the diverter cam motor might be the solution. I've had the sump open and cleaned off the impeller and filters of debris, Ran various cleaners, and checked all holes in all spray arms for debris with no luck. Any way I can test to be sure this motor is the cause of the issue before I replace it?

1 Answer

Liam, Aside from testing to make sure that the motor is getting power to it this diverter motor would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Adam for Model Number LDS5540ST

Replacing the diverter motor on my dishwasher but the cam will not line up with the motor inside the machine. The old diverter motor 4681ED3001D is not turning at all, as well as the new replacement won't turn. I can put a wrench on it if i have to, but i was wondering if there was right way to get it to turn and align so i can re-install it into my dishwasher. It appears to be 180 degrees out of alignment. If i can turn it with a wrench, clockwise or counter-clockwise?

1 Answer

Adam, You can turn the motor by turning it clockwise with a wrench. Just go slow while doing this.

Peter, The "entire sump/pump" assembly is available AJH31248608 / AJH31248608, if you want to replace it. But, the OE error code indicates a drain issue, ".OE error Not fully drained out in spite of 5 min. drain cycle." You may want to check the drain hose and disposal for restrictions or clogs. Remove and check or replace the drain pump EAU61383518 / 4681EA2002H, and check that the "check valve" in the drain opening isn't blocked, deformed or broken and blocking the opening. The undissolved detergent could be due to a slow/inadequate fill water level, and or the hot water isn't hot enough to dissolve the detergent(120 dgrs.F. minimum).

Richard, The FE error code will be caused by excessive water supplied than normal water lever. Check to make sure that the inlet valve is not seeping water and if this checks ok then this will be a bad control board.
