Hello Mark. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Patty. Being a Kenmore, we do not have a service manual to help you repair the unit. However, there is a video on the parts page 6421JA3001D that gives you an idea of how to replace the part. Thank you.

Hello Phillip, The solenoid is behind the plate that the drive yoke comes out of. It is mounted right next to the auger motor.

Hello JGIRL1971, You will want to look to see if the bracket that attaches to the dispenser door and make sure that it is not broken. The solenoid could be a cause but you would want to check to see if the door assembly is not broken.

Hello Tom, This does sound like it could be the water valve but you may want to pull the filter out and try first to make sure filter is good. If still not working then you should check to make sure that you are getting power to the water valve 5221JB2006K. You should have 12 vdc to the valve when dispenser is depressed. IF there is power then you would want to change the valve if no power then check at the control board 6871JB1259Dfor power to the water valve. If no power then you need new control board. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Bill, The three stage valve 5221JA2006D you are referring to is the correct valve for your unit. If you have changed the water filter 5231JA2006F recently, you may not have purged all of the air out of it. In case this is the case, you should throw away at least 2 gallons of water to rid the water dispense system of all air. If air is in the system, the water valve will not close properly.

Hello Junior, I would put my test meter on ac voltage and put the leads across the water valve harness leads. Now force the icemaker to cycle and watch the meter for 120Vac. It will only appear for 7 seconds so you have to watch the meter during the entire cycle. If you never see the 120Vac, the icemaker points are not making electrically. If you do see the voltage, the water inlet valve has failed and will require replacement.

Hi Steve. The ice maker water valve is the single one part # MJX41178908. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Make sure while testing, you get 120 vac to the water valve. If so then replace if you only get drips out of it. Use the ohms scale and see if you get resistance on the water valve coils. Make sure the terminals are not separately grounded to the water valve mount. (o-ohms). If the water valve solenoid coils are open or shorted then it will not allow the opening of the solenoid mechanically. If it is internally stuck then it will not open as well. Thank You.
