For Lg Washer Stator Assembly (Part Number: OEM16787070)

Trevor for Model Number WM2277HW

I have managed to keep my 15 year old LG Tromm washer going with new seals and a new spider over the years. What is the likely cause of the rotor/drum locking in seemingly an electromagnetic way when power is applied to the stator and then unlocking as soon as the power stops? A hum accompanies the motor trying to spin. The problem first presented itself as the washer filling up and then trying to agitate but only stuttering and then eventually an LE error code would show up. I checked continuity through the harness and wires all the way to the control board. I ohmed the stator and the reading were consistent across the wires. And my voltmeter showed what appeared to be 150V, 240V, and 250V (confusing since it is a 120V appliance) using a neighbor's old analog voltmeter as my digital one presented strange readings with multiple decimal places. Visually, the stator and rotor don't look any different than a couple years ago when I last had them apart. Thanks for your help as my laundry is piling up and the natives are getting restless!

Trevor, you are going to want to check the wiring harness ensuring that there are no loose connections or damaged wiring. To ensure that no wires are damaged, you will want to do a continuity test on the wiring. From there, you will want to test the resistance of the motor winding. All three connections should read between 5 and 15 ohms when tested from contact 1-2, 2-3, 1-3. All three should ohm the same. If not, then you have a bad winding. If they do ohm out properly, and the wiring harness checks good, then you have a bad hall sensor [6501KW2002A] which is a part of the stator assembly.

Paul, if the rear outer tub assembly is cracked, then you would need to replace it AJQ73413811 and it comes with the bearings and seal pre-installed. For the rotor assembly, with those magnets being broken you may want to replace the stator as well due to the fact that it is common for the windings to become damaged when the broken magnets run across the metal plates on the stator 4417EA1002Y.

Alex for Model Number WM2233HD

I have an LG washer that is not spinning in any spin cycle. The basket twitches a bit as if it is trying to spin, but makes a terrible squealing grinding noise and does not spin. The basket will spin smoothly by hand and I have tested the drain pump in diagnostic mode to confirm it is functioning properly. I am not getting an error code of any type. Does this sound like a stator issue? How can I confirm the stator is faulty before ordering a replacement. Thanks so much! The dirty laundry is starting to take over!

Alex, You will need to get behind the unit and remove that rotor to see if any visual damage is present. Also, it is possible that the spider and shaft on the inner tub is the problem here.

Jeff, If you access the tech sheet there will be some testing that can be done for the LE error code. This error will normally be the hall sensor, the wiring, control board or the stator that is faulty.

Mike, You will want to check the wiring between the sensor and motor to the main control board to make sure that there are no loose or damaged wires. If this checks ok then this will likely be a faulty motor on the unit.

Edward, You will want to make sure that you installed the inner and outer bearings on the unit. If you did this then check the motor on the unit to make sure that it is good as it could cause this issue.

Gage, If there is a broken coil on the stator then yes this would most certainly cause the LE error code.

Greg, Check to make sure that the tub spins freely by hand and is not dragging. If this checks ok then the issue will most likely be the stator or the control board.

Cole, This LE error will be rotor locked up and will want to check to make sure that the tub will spin freely in both directions. If it does then pull the stator and rotor and make sure that the magnets are not damage or cracked. If this checks ok then the rotor position sensor will be the issue.

Jeff, Check the motor connector from pin 1 to pin 2, from pin 2 to pin 3, from pin 1 to pin 3 for between 5 and 15 ohms of resistance. If not correct replace the stator assembly and if they do not check ok then replace the main control board.
