Hello Lena, You will need to thaw the unit out so the refrigerator evaporator fan cover assembly can be removed without breaking the styrofoam backing. If the styrofoam backing gets broken, it DA97-11772B will have to be replaced to prevent a frosting issue from occurring again. When removed, first move the sensor on the copper Freon line at the top of the evaporator coils to the other Freon line. You will then need to clear the ice from the defrost drain and install a defrost drain heater 819043. This should take care of the issue.

Raymond This sounds like it would be caused by a unit that is not going into defrost which would be a faulty control board since both sides are doing the same thing.

Hello Maurilio, This sounds like a defrost issue with a stopped up defrost drain. You will most likely need to replace the evaporator cover DA97-02427G and add a defrost drain heater 819043 after clearing the frozen defrost drain with a hair dryer.

Fred, You will want to check to make sure that the evaporator fan motor is running in the freezer. Also check to make sure that the evaporator coils is not impacted with ice. If the coils are impacted with ice then the issue will be a defrost issue in which you will need to test the defrost heater for continuity and the defrost sensor for resistance of 5K ohms at 77 degrees. If these check ok then the control board would be the issue with the unit.

Daman W for Model Number Samsung RS264ABBP side by side refrigerator

I saw your excellent video demo for replacing the DA96-00020Q evaporator assembly on a Samsung side by side on the fridge side. Please confirm if this video shows replacing only the heater part or the whole assembly unit? Your video demo showed steps for disassembly of heater from the coils etc. which requires lot of and somewhat complicated steps. Why I can not take to the existing evaporator assembly and replace with the new assembly ? For this do I need to separate heater from the coils to take out the existing evaporator as well as separate in new one to install it ? I understand one can only buy the heater part at lower cost.

Daman, There are a lot of instances where the heater on the evaporator has failed and would want to just replace the heater. In order to replace the entire evaporator assembly you would have to have a certified technician that can work on sealed systems to replace the entire evaporator. The video shows how to replace the heater part of that evaporator so that if the heater is the only issue it can be done by a consumer without the added cost of calling a repair technician.
