For Samsung Evaporator Assembly (Part Number: OEM12516006)

Mateo for Model Number RS264ABSH/XAA-0000

The fridge side defrost heater is bad on part number DA96-00020Q. It is one unit which includes the heat element. I checked with my appliance repairman, and they indicated that rather than replacing the whole evaporator assembly they could add a new part, which is shown on the diagram, part number DA97-00111C (a drip pan heater) also used on the freezer assembly. This would be added and I assume plugged in where the old heater was attached. I don't believe this would be able to heat the entire evaporator and I would still have the defrost problem. What are your thoughts with this solution? Could this possibly provide enough heat to defrost the entire assembly and avoid having to replace DA96-00020Q?

1 Answer

Hello Mateo. We do not recommend changing the design of any manufacturers products. Adding that heater would change the design of the unit.

Eric for Model Number RS2578SH

Both the freezer and the refrigerator are both not cooling on my Samsung RS2578SH side-by-side refrigerator (mfg date 8-2004). The freezer stopped working first, the temprature light was flashing 50 degrees. About two weeks later the refrigerator stopped cooling as well and th fridge temp light started flashing like the freezer. I have replaced the motherboard and the compressor relay and that did not fix the problem. The compressor appears to be working becaus when i put may hand on it i can feel some vibration and it is warm. The comressor cooling fan in working. Any suggestions that you can give is very much appreciated. Thank you! Eric

Eric, You will want to check the frost pattern in the freezer compartment on the evaporator coils. If there is very little frost on the coils then the issue will be a sealed system failure and you will want to contact an authorized refrigeration technician to repair the unit.

From reading so many questions/answers, it looks like my defrost heater is not working BUT that it is integrated with DA96-00020Q part so the entire evaporator assembly will have to be replaced. However, since it is a sealed system and I am a "mere mortal", would like to know what a rough estimate to get a licensed HVAC person to replace this. Can I order the actual part from you even though I have to hire someone else install it? I am now being told that if the evaporator has to be replaced, the compressor may too since it is a sealed system. About how much should it cost to get a repairman to fix this?

1 Answer

Phyllis, Yes you would order the part from us but unfortunately we could not advise of a cost to have it replaced as we do not deal with service providers and each would have different costs.

Hello George, I'm sorry but a repair like this requires soldering since the sealed system can hold over 400 PSI. I would recommend to replace the evaporator coil. Since this requires special training and certification, I would recommend having a factory authorized servicer perform the repair.

Ali for Model Number RS2545SH

Thanks for answering my earlier question regarding fridge-side frosting. My heater measures 0 ohms (short circuit) as opposed to what I see as the common problem of the heater being open circuit. Now 0 ohms wouldn't make much sense to me as it would blow a fuse or two. I measured the resistance at the terminals of the heater at the heater itself (not at the PCB). I do get error code 7 and my temperature sensor seems to be fine, reading about 6.7 kohm at 60 degree. So is this still a heater problem or something more (or hopefully less) serious?

1 Answer

Ali, Based on the information it sounds like the heater element would be the issue with unit.

Hello Ali. Test the heater. Should read around 5k ohms. As for the board, it is located on the back of the unit by the compressor.
