For Whirlpool Inner Wash Basket (Part Number: OEM18053451)

Bill for Model Number 110.45972401

I have a Kenmore HE3t Washer. Over the past week, the washer started making a loud thumping noise. When I checked the unit, I first thought it was the main bearing. But when I noticed plastic slivers from wear underneath the front rubber seal, I checked further and found that the main basket can wobble back and forth ( at rest leans to the right) and the front plastic basket is taking the wear. With the excessive movement, could a support spring have broken? Will I need to replace the front basket as well?

Todd, It does sound like the support arms on the spin basket have broken loose and the tub is "wobbling" when the tub is spinning at a high speed. You didn't mention any rumbling or growling noise, so we can presume the tub bearings are OK, and can be cleaned and lubed, if or when you replace the tub. This is a "bulky" time consuming repair(makes for a Saturday morning project) but it's a doable repair, with basic skills and tools.

Hello Ron, This is most likely the spin bearing W10772617. In cases where the spin bearing fails, it is a good idea to inspect the "spider" shaft where it passes through the bearing. When the bearing stops spinning, the support shaft WPW10250573 will take on wear which will accelerate the failure of the new bearing.

My Whirlpool Duet front loader is only 4 years old and it has started to make "Knocking" noises when it goes into high speed spin cycle. Durig normal wash, it's quiet. I have read that the duet washers have experienced problems related to kncking noise caused by the "spider" mounted to the back of the tub basket corroding and cracking. Some people say this can be verified without disassembly by shaking the inner tub to see if a noise occurs? Does this sound right before I spend +$300 for a new tub basket?

Ron, Thats one way of checking, another way, is to turn the tub so a baffle/lifter is on the bottom, grasp the front edge lip of the tub, with your finger tips, place your thumbs on the bottom of the opening, and lift up with your fingers, there should be very little if any movement from the tub, if you feel or see it move up, you've got a badly worn tub bearing or a broken support arm on the spin basket. Thanks

Hello Frank, There are several things you should check. First make sure the unit is unplugged and remove the main top and make sure the suspension springs are in place. There are two slots where the springs can be installed and they must be in the rear position. If these are correctly placed, Check the weights for cracks and they should be firmly bolted to the tub assembly. Vibration often causes the weights to work loose and this can lead to extensive repairs. It's hard to tell if the shocks are bad without filling the unit with water and shaking the tub around. If there is a squeaky shock, this will normally make it show up. If the tub hangs lower now, the suspension springs and/or the shocks have to be to blame. I suspect one of the shocks will be the issue unless one of the springs have jumped to the front slot.

Hello Bearnie! The shaft on the basket WPW10250573 is only available with the basket only, it is not available separate. The bearings are included with the outer tub W10772617. Thanks!

Hello Gary. No, to replace the seals and bearings, you will need to replace the tub assembly W10772617. If the shaft broke, it would be best to replace the bearings in the tub assembly. The manufacture does not sell the bearings separately. Hope this helps.

Hi Robert. This metal compound was up graded. But what deteriotates it is the rear tub seal / bearing leaking. It will start small over a long lenght of time and then continually drip and spray when the unit operates. The drum is part # WPW10250573. Thank You.
