For Whirlpool Washer Bearing And Seal Kit (Part Number: OEM9061329)

Johnny for Model Number gsq9300E

Hi, I am replacing the bearings and seals on this top load washer. I've already removed the lower bearing and seal, and the topmost seal. I am currently attempting to remove the top bearing and adjacent seal, accept there appears to be a small metal "lip" about 1/8th of an inch down from the top of the tube running around the inside of the shaft tube that the final seal and bearing are too wide to get past. I was watching the video on how to replace and install this kit, yet the washer he's working on doesn't appear to have the same lip on the inside top of the shaft/bearing tube. Question: is this a part of the actual tube, or a leftover component of the mangled seal I removed? There wasn't much of the seal left, and it looks nothing like the new seal that replaces it. I do not want attempt to remove the lip and damage the tube, but need to know if this was a part of the seal that is just stuck and can be pried out. Thanks.

Johnny, This lip looks like it would be what is left of the lip seal and bearing inside the tube.

Armadeo, To remove the inner tub you would need to remove the panel between the main top of the washer and the dryer. Once removed you will want to remove the clips that hold the cabinet off. Once removed you would want to remove the top cover on the tub and remove the bolt from the center of the agitator and remove the agitator. Once the agitator is removed then use a spanner wrench to remove the nut and lift out the inner tub.

Tim, Yes, the gearcase could be the issue but also check the motor coupling 285753A for possible failure or failing.

David, You may want to take a look at the area around the center tub seal, sometimes there is a crack around the center of the plastic tub. If the tub is ok, you will want to replace the center tub seal, part number is W10814296

Hello Ken, This can be something in the drain pump WP3363892, a failing motor coupler 285753A, something between the tubs, a failing component in the gearcase 3360629, or an issue with the clutch 285785 and/or the basket drive W10820043. You will need to open the unit and run it with the lid switch bypassed and cabinet off to determine the general area where the sound is coming from for a more detailed diagnosis.

Hello, My washer started making a loud grating noise only during the washing cycle. I followed your excellent instructions for replacing the Drive Motor Coupler which was broken, and now that I read more about it, not the source of the noise, but I put it all back together and it is still making the noise. I found that if I lift up slightly on the tub while it is cleaning the noise stops for a little while. What else could be wrong? Thank you for your assistance!

1 Answer

Teresa, It sounds likely that the agitator cam may be the issue along with the agitator dogs The. part that would be needed would be 285748.

Jeff for Model Number MTW5800TWO

Hello my washer was making loud clunk noise during spin cycle only. I first replaced the clutch and agitator dogs, didn't help. I then replaced the drive block it now only clunks at the beginning of spin cycle. It spins and agitates fine. The lady I spoke with on your site recommended replacing the tub bearing and the outer tub. I cant find a video for that repair and I'm not sure that is the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jeff

1 Answer

Jeff, The bearings will not typically make a clunking noise and in most cases this may be the brakes releasing or possibly sticking when it goes into the spin cycle. That would be the most likely cause with what has already been replaced.
