For Whirlpool Washer Bearing And Tub Seal Kit (Part Number: OEM15975108)

Rw for Model Number MVWB850YW0

Hello Appliance Parts Pros, I have a Maytag Bravos XL (purchased in approximately 2010 – and that’s a bit of a guess), Model: MVWB850YW0, Serial #: C22170034. The bottom of the rotor is fairly well covered with a brown residue, as is the floor below the machine. The floor is actually completely covered with this brown residue. I pulled the machine away from the wall, removed the rear full-size panel and ran a small load of laundry thru the machine. All stays dry until the Wash Cycle, then a substantial amount of water begins to drip/spray off of the rotor and onto the floor. This dripping/spraying water accumulates into a 1.5’ to 2.0’ puddle. I do not believe this dripping continues after the Wash Cycle. The machine seems to run loudly, but cannot recall what the noise level was when the machine was new. No thumping, banging, or grinding. Other than a few tiny drips from the top of the machine, all else seems dry inside the cabinet. Pumps are dry. What seems to be the problem here? I’m just a knucklehead homeowner, but it seems that the “tub seal” is leaking; do you concur? I further assume that if the tub seal is bad, I’ll need to replace the two bearings in that same general location – would you also concur with a replacement of the bearings? What replacement parts do you recommend for my model # and serial #? I’ll also need the bearing press tool; can you also recommend the proper tool? I watched your video “How to Replace Bearing and Tub Seal Kit #W10435302”. The machine shown in the video (with the exception of the clothes agitator) looked similar to my machine, does this video accurately portray the replacement procedures for my machine? Any other advice? Thank you so much for your help, >Rw

1 Answer

Hello Rob, this sounds like the drive shaft's spin bearing lubricant is leaking out as this model does not use a gearcase. You would need part W10435302 to repair the washer ,also there is a video on our website for this part showing the repair procedure.

Pat, it is possible that the seal could leak as the unit is in operation. However, as water can leak from several areas, it is usually best to attempt to identify where the water is coming from while the unit is in operation.

I ordered your bearing and tub seal kit (W10435302) but noticed the grease that was included looks nothing like the grease in the repair video. All the repair videos I’ve seen for kit #W10435302 use a thick green grease (part #W10331031), whereas the grease in the kit I received had no part # or other identifying info on it, and the grease itself is white in color and appears very thin and soupy. Is this a silicone grease? I just want to make sure I’m using the correct type before I seat the ring and seal it.

1 Answer

Michael, there is a tube of grease and a tube of plyobond in this kit. The tubes should have an identifier on them labeled grease and adhesive. The smaller tube is going to be the grease. The larger tube is going to be the adhesive plyobond.

JR, the replacement bearing kit for your unit is going to be [W10435302] and along with this bearing kit you may want to use the tool kit [W10447783] for proper installation. Something you may want to check is the rotor and stator assembly as well as these can cause the washer to sound like a jet engine trying to take off if they are bad. You can check the magnets on the rotor assembly for cracks and debris while you would want to do resistance checks on the stator assembly.

Paul M for Model Number 11027062604

Hi, I just replaced the shaft and bearings on a Kenmore Elite Oasis HE Washer (Model 11027062604) and noticed that there is some resistance between the stator / stator cover when I rotate the stator cover (plastic cover with magnets around it). There is no resistance when the stator is not attached to shaft. There is no actual rubbing noise and the resistance is more pronounced as I start rotating faster – it almost feels like a magnetic resistance when rotated over a certain speed (washer is not plugged in). Is this normal? Did anyone else experience similar magnetic resistance when you attached and rotated the motor cover? Thanks.

1 Answer

Paul, Yes, this is a "normal" reaction, in some cases when installing the rotor, the magnetic draw will actually "snatch" the rotor out of your hands. Make sure you tighten the stator screws evenly, and cross pattern, so nothing is warped or twisted, and make sure you properly seat and tighten the rotor bolt, and you'll be fine from there on out. Thanks,

Steve for Model Number WTW6300WW0

I had classic bad seal/bearings symptoms: jet plane sound, spattered grease underneath, slight water leak. Ordered the seal and shaft kit and seating tool. Did repair with only one hiccup, had a very hard time getting new shaft to seat all the way to the silver-colored flange, as instructed. Had to bang very hard and for quite a while using hammer and wood block. Was wondering if it was going to mess with the lower bearing?! Finished repair. Bearing sound is gone but now have a scraping sound with every rotation of rotor. It is scraping the stator! I disassembled and reassembled those parts and still is scraping. Local shop said it sounded like shaft is not spinning perfectly true- warped slightly. My question: you guys are graciously sending me a new kit which I am thankful for, but I want to know if I can prevent this from happening again. If the shaft will not seat easier is it ok maybe to apply a slight amount of oil to it? Do you think I either damaged the shaft, knocked the lower bearing loose, or something else? Thank you.

1 Answer

Steve, It sounds likely that the shaft may have bent but make sure that you are putting the bearings in the correct places.

Hello Elizabeth, You will need to order the bearing and tub seal kit W10435302 and the bearing installation tool W10447783 to install them or you can order W10193887 to get the tub assembly with the bearings, shaft, and seal preinstalled by the factory.
