Washer won't spin or agitate? A worn drive block often causes spinning failure. This connects the transmission to the tub. Moderately difficult repair.

For Whirlpool Washer Drive Block (Part Number: OEM18026517)

Charles for Model Number WTW4800XQ4

Violent shaking in rinse/spin cycle I have replaced clutch/pulley. Also dampening Rods/tub springs. Leveled unit and always balanced load properly. No grinding noise when spinning drum, but of course with weight of filling tub unable to see if that would produce a check of noisy tub bearing. Do have some water in tub after washer completes cycle, detected if I push down on drum. Thinking of removing drum to see if some thing obstructing or preventing pump from removing all water. Did remove pump and check if dirty or obstructed pump/hoses no obstructions. Actuator was another guess. But this seems to be a related spin symptom. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank You .. Respectfully .. Charles

Charles, You have a tech sheet in the inner cabinet front left corner. Raise the lid by removing two screws in the back that frees the top cover and slide forward and up. Put the unit into diagnostics and retrieve the error codes. Im thinking possibly slow drain and the water left over throws it out of balance. Could be clothing blocking drain water also.

Jerry, If you have checked or replaced the WP3951632 Lower Agitator, 285809 Cam Repair Kit/dogs, and the problem still persists, you will need to check or replace the 3360629 Gearcase/Transmission.

Belinda, You will want to check to make sure that the washer drive block is not damaged as this will be the most likely cause for this issue with what has already been replaced. Also check the brakes on the unit to make sure that it is good.

Tim, This issue would most likely be caused by the agitator dogs and the part number that you would want to get to repair would be the cam kit 285811.

Hello Linda. It is not uncommon for the whirlpool washer to make that noise. That is usually the brake engaging in the unit and stopping everything at once.

Eric, You will want to check the rods on the unit to make sure that they are good. This would be the most likely cause for the unit shake violently at the end of the cycle.

Hello Geoff, This will have to be an issue in the gearcase assembly W11454741 since the splutch and actuator have been replaced already.

Joe, The only way to try to get the tub off the drive block would be to try rocking it and also maybe banging on it with a rubber mallet.

Paul, "Tapping" the drive block down onto the spin tube isn't abnormal, a good tight fit is needed, as long as it's tapping and not hammering, you'll be OK. Also remember to get the drive hub nut as tight as possible by hand then add 1/4 turn with a hammer and the spanner wrench.
