  • Interprets signals from the user interface and internal sensors
  • Directs power to components via onboard electronics
  • Monitors system status and may store/output diagnostic error codes
  • Common failure symptoms: won't start, unresponsive or blank display, stuck/erratic cycles, or recurring error codes after a power reset
What's included: 1 electronic control board Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing; verify no voltage is present
  • Use ESD protection and handle the PCB by edges only
  • Photograph/label connectors and move them one at a time to the new board to prevent miswiring
  • Inspect wiring, fuses, and related components for shorts or damage and correct any root cause before powering the new board; follow the unit's tech sheet for any required post-install setup

Bruce for Model Number MDBH979AWW2

My dishwasher will not start. I can choose any option and they all light up but pressing the start button has no effect. The lights will stay on for about 20 seconds then turn off. I have verified the door switch works and thermal fuse must also be good since there is power present. I have run the self diagnostic check and it appears to run but with a few points missing, sanitize light does not come on. I am assuming that the control card is bad but not completely convinced that the front panel start button is not at fault since the diagnostic test runs without the need to press it. Does the cycle timeout if the start button is not pressed within a certain time period? Thanks!

Chris, Yes this issue does sound like it is a faulty control board but you would also want to check to make sure that the door latch is good and if so then replace the control board.

Dan for Model Number mdb7749aww1

I have a Maytag model mdb7749aww1. It won't start, none of the buttons work, no leds light up. * I checked power- good * I checked the door switch- good * I disconnected from power, unplugged the ribbon from the panel board, reconnected to power, shut the door- nothing * I disconnected from power, plugged in the ribbon, reconnected to power, shut the door and the drain pump runs for a couple minutes * disconnected from power, then reconnected to power, shut the door- nothing * disconnected from power, unplugged ribbon, reconnected ribbon, reconnected to power- the drain motor runs for a couple minutes. Could this be the fuse, or is it likely the contro; board?

Dan, You've pretty much confirmed that you have a faulty control panel/key pad assembly W10811149 "1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power. 2. Open the dishwasher door. 3. Open console and disconnect the keypad ribbon connection from the control (at P1). Make sure all other connections are made. 4. Put console back together. Do not close the dishwasher door. 5. Plug in dishwasher or reconnect power. 6. Wait 5 sec. 7. Close dishwasher door. 8. Monitor the control’s response: If the control is OK (no longer sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), it will respond by turning on the Drain Motor for 2 minutes. Check and/or replace the keypad if the control responds OK. ?If the control is not OK (still sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), then the drain motor will NOT if the drain motor does not start within 10 sec, repeat or verify that all the steps were followed, then replace the control".

Randy, You would be correct about the thermal fuse being good. If the thermal fuse were bad you would not have any lights. The door switch could be bad. You will want to test the switches on the latch assembly. If they are bad then the latch would need to be replaced. If the door switch checks ok then the control board would be the most likely cause.

Jeff, You will want to check power to the unit to make sure that you are getting 120 vac. Also check the thermal fuse in the control panel to make sure it has continuity. If no continuity then replace the thermal fuse and if there is continuity and you are getting 120 vac to the control board then the board would need to be replaced.

Michael, Your most likely issue is the control panel W10811156. "PROBLEM: Won’t Run or Power Up (“Dead” Keypad/Console) No operation No keypad response No LEDs or display > No power to unit or bad connection. Check fuses, circuit breakers, and junction box connections. Loose connections in dishwasher power up circuit or between keypad(s) and control."

Joe, The start button flashing is an indication that the door is not closing properly. You will want to check to make sure that the door switch is making contact. Measure the resistance of the door switch contacts while checking the mechanical operations of the latch assembly. Confirm that the switch is not loose and check the strike plate and door closure. If this checks ok then replace the control.
