Krista August 11, 2017 for Model Number GD5NVAXWA00 My ice maker is not working and my food at the top of the freezer is not frozen. After reading the thread I believe that the red blinking LED light probably means I need to replace the emitter and receiver boards to fix the ice maker. Is the problem with the food not staying frozen because of the ice maker not working or is there a secondary problem?
1 Answer Hello Krista. You will need to check your fan motor and make sure it is good. If the food in the top is not freezing, then the icemaker will not work and that may be your entire issue with the unit. Read More...

Doug February 26, 2017 for Model Number 10653706202 Ice maker not generating ice. I have replaced the ice maker. I have replaced the water valve. There is no water into the ice maker, but the emitter light is solid red when flapper is closed, so the emitter is working properly. All I can figure is that water line is frozen up beyond where I can tell or the emitter is good but the emitter control board is still not wholly sound. Next steps to determine?
1 Answer Doug, You will want to remove the icemaker and using a screws driver check to see if there is ice in the fill tube on the ceiling of the unit. Read More...
Bob January 26, 2017 for Model Number GS6NVEXVB00 Refrigerator not keeping cold enough. Refrigerator is set on 7 and the internal temperature is 42 degrees. The freezer is set on 6 to keep the temperature near 0 degrees.
1 Answer Bob, You will want to test the thermistors in the unit to make sure that at room temperature of 77 degrees they are reading 2.7K ohms of resistance. If they check bad then replace the thermistor. If they are ok then check the condenser to make sure that it is clean and check the condenser fan motor to make sure that it is running. If it is not running then replace. Read More...
Greg September 22, 2016 for Model Number KSCS25INSS00 My ice dispensing function stopped working. When the ice lever is pressed, no ice is dispensed even when the ice bucket is full. I can remove ice manually from the top of the bucket and the ice maker will make new ice when below the sensor level. I thought it was the auger motor and have tried another motor without success. What is wrong?...the control board? or ??
1 Answer Hello Greg. If the motor is not running, you will need to check the board in the dispenser and make sure all your wiring is good also. If the board W10184875 is bad, it has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part. Read More...
Randy August 07, 2016 for Model Number GD5RHAXNB00 Red light on the ice maker flashes twice even when ice maker switch is in the off position or when the switch is in the on position and flap is closed. Does this identify the fault in the control boards?
Jim M. August 07, 2016 for Model Number GD5PHAXMS10 Icemaker not working. I replaced the entire unit. Still not working. The receiver light is on when I open the door, but goes off when the door is shut (hold the door switch closed). Is the light supposed to go out when the door is closed? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Jim, Open the freezer door and view the diagnostics “status” LED. Two (2) pulses followed by a one (1)second delay (repeated) indicates either the flapper door on the emitter is blocking the beam or the optics are faulty. Press in the emitter flapper door to unblock the optics beam. Two (2) pulses followed by a one (1) second delay (repeated) indicates the Optics W11629974 are faulty. If the LED is on steady the Optics are working properly. Read More...
James July 31, 2016 for Model Number GS5SHAXNL02 My whirlpool side by side frig, has a water and ice dispenser in the door, the ice maker quit working first, I replaced the ice maker unit, it had some of the coating coming off where the ice cubes are made, that did not fix it but it needed replaced anyway,, the other day water starting coming out the water dispenser,( thank goodness we where home), it started flooding our house, it was running wide open, we had to pull the frig from the wall and turn off the water shut off valve. Do you think the control board is going bad?? Does the control board work both the ice and water??
1 Answer Hello James. Test for power to the water valve. If there is power there then either the switch or the board is bad. If there is no power there, then the water valve is bad on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
