The Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. It is designed to ignite the gas in the oven burner, facilitating the start of the heating process. This igniter is crucial for ensuring your oven heats up quickly and efficiently, providing the necessary flame for cooking and baking.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Igniter include:

  • The oven failing to heat up or taking a long time to reach the desired temperature.
  • A noticeable gas smell when the oven is turned on, indicating the gas is not igniting.
  • The igniter glowing without producing a flame, which can point to a lack of adequate temperature to ignite the gas.

Causes of a bad oven igniter can include the wear and breakdown of the igniter element over time, a faulty electrical connection, or a disruption in the gas supply.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Joe! Unfortunately, we can only recommend the parts that the manufacture suggests as a replacement to your appliance. If you are needing the bake/broil ignitor we can only suggest part number DE81-07046A. Sorry about that!

Chris, is this the "valve " you're discussing WP74009891 ? You should have 120 VAC to the terminals in a non cook mode. if you check resistance across the two terminals, you should have a "closed" circuit. When you program a bake mode and the igniter is glowing, the circuit should draw 3.2 to 3.6 amps, or have 3.2 to 3.6 VAC across the bake valve terminals, if all checks OK on your meter, the valve would be defective. If the amperage or voltage is low, you have a weak igniter. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Tawni. The wiring diagram is supplied behind the storage drawer or the control panel folded in a small packet. When replacing the ignitor wear gloves and do not touch the carbon ignitor itself. You cut the old ignitor wires close to the ignitor and use the ceramic wire nuts to secure wires. Make sure you take time to dress and tuck all wires out of the burner flame area. Thank You.

Chris, Your issue will be with the relay board or wiring harness between the relay board and clock. Could you supply us with the serial number of your range, so we can verify and advise you properly. Thanks

Ron, No theres not a digram, As long as the mounting bracket does not get distorted or bent, its a straight across part for part exchange and mount (two screws, and wire nuts). Once the burner has ignited and is burning, there will be a slight orange glow to the glow bar, so the glow bar has to be encompassed by the flame, to keep the resistance low enough to keep the valve open. Good Luck and Thanks

Danny, All newer gas cooking products use a "flat" type oven igniter 12400035 . There are more components involved in the ignition and flame operation of the oven, and with a shoted bare wire, I fear there could be more damage. Theres the possibiliy that the contacts in the thermostat have shorted or a damaged switch in the oven burner valve, so be ready to need to investigate further if the igniter and repairing the wire don't solve your issue. Thanks and Good Luck

Jeff for Model Number Magic Chef Range Model #3468xva

You just answered a question for me.. Your answer was very helpful.. I just wanted to ensure that it isnt the preasure regulator or gas valve that can be bad. My oven does not light , broiler as well as all top burners work properly . Igniter for oven gets extremely hot but oven gas rail wont ignite... I'm assuming since everything else is working , the regulator as well as gas valve are fine ??? ( You told me to replace igniter ) Thank you
