The Washer Gear Case is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It plays a crucial role in the washer's transmission system, managing the agitation and spin cycles by regulating the drum's movement. This ensures that the washing machine operates effectively, providing thorough cleaning and efficient water extraction.

Common causes of a bad gear case include mechanical wear from extended use, damage from overloading the washer, or internal failures within the gear mechanism. Such issues can disrupt the washer's ability to perform its cycles correctly.

Symptoms of a bad gear case include:

  • The washer failing to agitate or spin
  • Loud grinding or clicking noises during operation
  • The washer leaking oil or grease
  • Incomplete wash or spin cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Brittny, a spanner wrench TB123B would be needed, other than that just standard tools are used, such as a ratchet socket set, flat/Philips screwdrivers, and a putty knife.

Dennis, Check the pulley on the bottom of the tub to make sure that it is not loose. If it is then put some blue Loctite on the threads and tighten it back up and see if the issue stops. If this is not the case then the issue will most likely be the bearings that are bad and are part of the gearcase.

Maytag Owner, You're pretty much on target, When a Bravos washer makes noise in the spin cycle it is usually due to a worn tub bearing. In this case, the bearing is internal to the gearcase assembly W11454734/W11454734 Gearcase, and it will need to be replaced. A few drops of oil is usually residual oil from the manufacturing and shipping process, but that issue will be resolved with the new gearcase assembly and basic cleanup. Thanks,

Steve, The error code referenced is for a machine that either does not reach spin speed in spin or one that has a power failure during the spin cycle. Unplug the washer for 5 minutes and then re start if all works then it just needed a hard reboot. If it continues then check for loose wiring connections to the mainboard and make sure not wires are broken or cut/damaged.

Hello Joe, You need to make sure the top edge of the spin basket sounds like there is water in it. This is a saline solution used to balance the unit during the spin cycle. Also, make sure the unit is properly leveled and the floor is strong enough. A good test for the floor is to place a glass of water on the dryer. Make sure the washer and dryer are not touching and set the washer to spin. If the water in the dryer moves during the washers spin cycle, this is motion transferred through the floor.

However, based on the information provided, the gearcase would need to be replaced as it should not be leaking oil.

Hello Richard, you are correct, if water is leaking past the outer tub and down onto the gearcase, then there is a problem with the gearcase to tub sealing, in that case the repair would be replacing the gearcase assembly W11454734.
