The Inlet Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for controlling the flow of water into the dishwasher during the wash cycle. This assembly ensures that the correct amount of water enters the dishwasher to clean dishes effectively.

You should replace the inlet assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad inlet assembly can include wear and tear from regular use, blockages from debris or mineral buildup, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning inlet assembly can lead to inadequate water flow, which affects the dishwasher’s cleaning performance.

Symptoms of a bad inlet assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water or filling slowly
  • Water leaks around the inlet area
  • Error codes related to water intake issues
  • The dishwasher stopping mid-cycle or not starting

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

My dishwasher is not filing with water. I tested water pressure, it was fine. I replaced the inlet valve and cleared the supply line. I then determined water was getting to the inlet valve from the supply but it was not getting passed the inlet valve to the supply hose to the actual washing cavity. I disconnected the supply line to the tank while the machine was running and nothing was coming through the line. I then replaced the float switch, thinking that perhaps there was a default there. After replacing the float switch I still do not have water getting to the machine. What could the problem be? Is the only thing left the control board? I am resistant to buying a new control board to find out it will not repair the machine given their expense. At some point I just need to give in and buy a new machine. But if that is the last possible problem, I am willing to spend the money on the board. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Glenn B, The first thing to check is to see at the fill portion of the cycle if power is getting to the valve. If not then trace the wiring back to see if it is the control or a wiring issue. If you do have power to the valve and not water thru then the valve is defective.

Jim, Check to see if there is power to the water valve and if there is not then check the wiring between the valve and the control board. If there is no damage to the wires then replace the control board.

Doug, if there is no debris in the sump assembly that could be blocking water flow and the circulation pump W11133712 receives proper voltage, the pump has failed and would need to be replaced.

I am witnessing clean water at the bottom of my dishwasher. Initially I thought it was the drain of the food crusher and the P-trap that were clogged and that was not the case. I cleaned them anyway. When I kept on witnessing water still I decided to clean the filter at the bottom to be sure that nothing was obstructing the pump. Last night we did not use the dishwasher and this morning I found clean water at the bottom again. I have the feeling that water is entering the dishwasher for no reason. Could it be the inlet assembly even though I don’t know it’s purpose or the fill solenoid valve letting water in even when the unit is idle. Let me have your comments Thanks Nicholas

Nicholas, This issue would be caused by a faulty water valve that is allowing water to seep in and the inlet valve would need to be replaced. The part number for the valve is WPW10158389.

Hello Ben, the water inlet for the tub that is mounted on the left hand side has to have openings to prevent reverse siphon as per Plumbing Codes. Some steam may come out of the openings during the tub wash fill also for air equalization during wash with non vented doors such as your model has. The sound dampening blanket that wraps around the tub is draped down over that inlet port to absorb the moisture and allow it to dissipate slowly after the cycle finishes. this is usually not a problem unless the blanket is out of position, missing or torn, also can occur if the cabinet cut out for the dishwasher is a tight fit. If the blanket is damaged or missing it is part W10877094.

Hello Cheryl, If the water is coming in from the garbage disposal, this would be caused by a failing check valve in the drain line WPW10545278 of the dishwasher. If there is a water valve W11175771 issue, it can be caused by a variation of water pressure to the dishwasher since water pressure is the only thing that closes the water valve. If this is the case, replacing the water valve will not correct the issue unless there is a mineral deposit or sedimentation build-up inside the water valve assembly.

The dishwasher is not getting water. Replaced the water inlet valve. Pressure good. Water supply to valve good. You can hear the valve open for about 5 seconds then it stops with just a small amount of water getting into the dishwasher. I found the tech sheet and tried to invoke diagnostic codes the only thing I saw that may help was one white and one blue light flashing constantly. There is nothing on the tech sheet to say what that means? I am a licensed plumber with over 34 years experience, but I don't usually repair appliances unless it's for a friend so I could use some help with diagnosing the problem! Thanks

Hello Jim, If your model number is actually KDTE104DSS0, the diagnostic cycle will tell you what the fault code is by which lights are illuminated. The color of the lights is not important. If you could please post a new question telling what lights are lit, we will be happy to assist you in your diagnosis. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

G Mail, it is probably leaking at the fill tube or from the inlet valve. If you can pull it out far enough so that you can see it fill and operate, you should be able to see where it is leaking from.
