The Belt and Isolator Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes a drive belt and isolators that work together to transfer motion from the motor to the washer drum while dampening vibrations.

Over time, the belt can wear out, stretch, or break due to regular use, heavy loads, or friction. The isolators may also deteriorate, losing their ability to absorb shocks effectively.

Symptoms of a bad Belt and Isolator Kit include:

  • The drum not spinning or agitating
  • Excessive vibration or noise during operation
  • The washer failing to start or complete cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Norman, I'm sorry but the manufacturer has not listed the part number of the belt in this kit. The dimensions of the belt are length 52 5/8", width 5/8". Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Malcolm, the pulley 22002315 is meant to be flat. It would be recommended that the pulley is inspected to identify if it has any play as it should not wiggle around. If it does, this is usually caused by the lock nut lossening.

Hello Larry, as with all pulleys with belts the pulleys have to line up correctly (in the same plane) otherwise the belt will run off one or the other pulley. Try to measure across the pulleys with a straight edge or something similar to test. The mounting for the motor may have shifted in some way or the plastic driven pulley(spinner) 22002315 may be warped.

Hello Dennis, The part numbers on the belt are most often vendor numbers and are not useful in locating replacement parts. The part number you need as looked up by the model number provided is 12001788.

John, The unit making a squeaking noise during reverse rotation of the drum would normally indicate a possible belt slipping. You will want to double check the belt and pulley.

Robert, a worn out isolator(s) could make a knocking noise, but not like what you're describing. You most likely have a loose tub support or a cracked/broken arm on the spinner support assembly W10181639. The weight of wet clothes would cause the spin basket to "wobble" and hit the outer tub making the noise you hear now.

Ref belt on mmh5500bww,agree with other writers, the Brazil belt marked 62722870 Maytag 1411J 6 MAEL hutchinson POLY-V is 52 in long. The proper belt should be 54 inches or a little longer will work. This is with the motor in the far upmost position, and please believe me, this Brazil belt is too tight. I can get it on but it is too tight! Way to tight. These people writing in needs to know this Brazil belt is manufacture or marked wrong! A good source of supply? Can you guys do a QDR on this?

1 Answer

James, This type of issue will be a manufacturer issue. As for the belt being too tight. It is supposed to be tight. When installing the belt you should have to put it on the motor pulley and then start it around the tub pulley, in which it will go about 1/2 way on. Then you have to hold the belt and turn the main pulley to get it the rest of the way on. If you put a longer one on then it will cause the unit to not spin or agitate properly as it will slip when trying to turn.

James for Model Number mmh5500bww

Ref the belt problem everyone is writing about, they are right! The 62662770 which says Maytag on the belt and also 1411J 6 MAEL is TOO short (made in Brazil). Also says hutchinson POLYV(registered). I guess is they manufactured a bunch of these belts too short. Please post this, and where should one get the right belt? These people writing in are correct in what they are saying no matter what the belts say on it. Believe me, stuff like this happens. Someone puts in the wrong software an hundreds of wrong size belts come out. And also the motor is adjusted all the way to the stop on unit and that is not the problem. Motor adjustment is ok.

1 Answer

Hello James. The belt is very tight and is not to short. You must have the motor bolt loose and start the belt on the motor pulley and roll it onto the large pulley. Again, the belt is extremely tight and this will seem impossible but trust me, it will fit. I personally have installed over 500 of these belts myself and have doubted many of the first few belts I installed.

Rrs for Model Number MAH5500BWW

The Maytag washer belt came off. Ordered and replaced belt but the new belt comes off after the pulley makes a couple of rounds. Checking comments on similar issue, it seems that two things could be causing this 1) the drum bearing could have gone bad and causing this and / or 2) the pulley could have worn out. Question is how do I know which is the cause. The drum is a major expense compared to the pulley. Is there a way to confirm whether this is a pulley or drum bearing issue?? Thanks, RRS

1 Answer

Hello RRS. Turn the pulley by hand, do the bearings feel bad? Does the inner tub feel loose? Also, do you hear a roaring sound when the unit spins? If so, the bearings are bad in the unit.
