For Whirlpool Dishwasher Door Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM17416122)

Cindy

I wrote to you once and the reply said could be a latch or control panel. I just want to ask again. All lights are on but the dishwasher will not start we unplugged and plugged it back in and when you do that all lights are still on but is does beep when it is closed and usually that only happens when you open it when it is already going. The dishwasher model is 66513949K012 I told my husband to check latch with meter and I showed him a youtube video on how to check the continuity for the latch but he said that the switch did not look like the one I found the video for. Can you explain how to check the latch that goes to the dishwasher we have? Also with more explanation of what is going on with the dishwasher do think it is still the latch then the control panel? I just would hate to spend the money on the parts and it not fix the issue and be stuck with non-returnable parts because we attached them to the dishwasher. I really appreciate your help. Thanks Cindy

Cindy, You can test the switch at that connection point that is on the latch assembly. Normally when the door is open the control panel lights will be on but should be able to make selections. Based on what has been described, it sounds more likely the control panel will be the issue. But to be safe always check the door switch first.

I just received door latch assembly Part Number W10619006. I had no problem installing the door latch, but I haven't been able to remove the door strike in my dishwasher to install the new one. The door strike appears to be made from plastic and was used with door latching mechanism W10370003. I haven't been able to find any side tabs on the door strike that could be adjusted for removal. Is there some easy way to remove the door strike or is it screwed in?

1 Answer

Joseph, There are no screws and the latch has tabs on the left and right that hold it in place. Use a small screwdriver and pop the tabs up as you pull the strike out.

Craig, The door latch would be the most likely cause for the unit shutting off during mid cycle and would need to test the door switches.

K.R., There is no adjustment, the latch assembly Snaps and Locks in place on the inner door panel and frame. You may want to check and make sure the door is properly aligned with the tub, and the latch and strike are properly aligned to each other. Then remove the outer panel and check to see that the latch hasn't come loose from the locking tabs on the door frame, before you replace the door latch.

ran into some issues with my dishwasher. the maytag site did some troubleshooting and told me to check continuity on my heater, door switch, door latch, and Thermal Fuse. Are there any instructions on how to do this? Also, How do I test my current Touch pad/control panel (W10811169), and/or Main Board (W10486463), to see if it could be one of them? the later parts are very expensive. It might be one of the two broken, but not both. How do I utilize a multi-meter to check these parts?

1 Answer

Hello Bob, This could be a door switch, the control panel, or the control board. You should use the tech sheet behind the kick panel to diagnose the issue.

Hello Ed, First check the connections in the power connection box behind the kickpanel. If a connection is loose it can cause this issue. If not, check the breaker connections and the breaker. Then pull the tech sheet and ohm the motor windings. It sounds like a connection issue.

John, Unfortunately there are no instructions on replacement of the door latch. To do this you will want to open the door of the dishwasher and make sure that the power has been disconnected. Take the screws out of the inner door panel and this will give you access to the inner door. Once you have access to the inner door you should just need to remove a screw or 2 to get the latch out. Then you would reassemble the unit.

Ron, The correct part number for your units door latch is W10619006. While the part that was received looks the same, we would not be able to advise if it will work for the unit.
