The door latch assembly can fail due to various reasons, such as repeated use, accidental impact, or wear and tear of the latch components over time. Electrical issues or misalignment can also contribute to malfunction.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The dishwasher door not staying closed
  • The dishwasher not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Water leaking from the door during operation
  • Difficulty latching or unlatching the door

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Dock, You're going to need to recheck and make sure you don't have any loose or crossed wires at the new door latch switches, or control board. If alls OK, you'll need to test or replace the keypad/control panel assembly W10197307, the "start" key could be the issue.

JR, You may find it easier to use a flat blade screw driver or a pair of needlr nose pliers to remove the wire terminals from the door switch terminals, You do have to "squeeze" the palstic terminal cover and pull out on the wire, at the same time, in order to "unlock" the wire terminal from the switch terminal.

Hello Randy, The handle used to be available alone, but it now crosses to the latch assembly W10862259 which includes the handle. I'm sorry but the handle isn't available by itself any more.

Eric, You may be able to "force" the door open. based on the part number you supplied, and if the dishwasher is less than ten(10) years old, you can "snatch" the door open. Grasp the top corners of the door(if you can get your fingertips between the door and the tub flange, even better) and pull out on the top of the door. The "rolling lock" usually will roll to the open position and the door will unlock, so you can make the repair.

In replacing handle part W10862259 I have forgotten how the wires go. It has been a year and I decided to fix the dishwasher. There are 2 white wires and 2 black wires that each go into a plug. What side do the white wires go and what side do the black go?

1 Answer

Hello Bob, The two white wires go to one switch and the two black wires go to the other. It doesn't matter which side they go in as long as the two white and two black are not crossed. If you cross them, you will trip a breaker and burn some connectors off of the wiring harness, since these are hot and neutral.
