  • Disconnect power and water before service; allow the appliance to cool
  • Access and replacement procedures vary by model; significant disassembly is typical
  • A bearing press/driver may be required; inspect shaft and related seals and replace if worn
  • After reassembly, run a test spin to check for leaks

I've watched and understand the bearing replacement video. Not sure that I don't have another bigger issue. The first symptom failure was a streak and puddle of black liquid inside the stainless steel wash tub. If the load was small, it didn't get on the clothes. Then the washer started leaking from the outer tub under the washer. I assume both the seal and the bearing (even though I don't have a noise issue), should be replaced, right. Question is: What could be the source of the black liquid? I've not ordered parts but started disassembly to be sure of what I needed. The inside of the drive bell has a heavy coating of this jet black, oily texture material. What could that mean? Also, my top tub ring is different that the video and is marked part no 36016. I broke off a piece in removal. Is a replacement available? BTW: Great video.

Charles, If you use fabric softener in the washer then this will be fabric softener that is not completely dissolved. For the leaking issue the seal would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Jim, Based on your post information and description, yes, you would want to replace all the parts you mentioned, plus the incidental parts (mounting bolts, tub bolts, washers, etc.) but the transmission 38826P is no longer available from the manufacturer. You may want to research the internet to see if you can get a new or remanufactured transmission, before you start the project. Thanks

Hello Greg, These are not the same part. We have no way to tell the exact difference since this information is not provided to us by the manufacturer. This bearing should be changed if it feels rough, is making noise, or is seized. The spin bearing is the one damaged by the tub seal leaking detergent water into it so if the tub seal is being replaced, it is wise to replace the spin bearing also. The only part we can recommend to you is the one recommended by the manufacturer for your model.

Hello Mike. Yes, if the unit is making a loud noise, it will need the bearings replaced on it as well.

Byron, The bearing is a sealed bearing but there is a separate seal above the bearing which is where the leak is most likely coming from. The part number you would need is the hub and seal kit R9900552.

Hello John. It sounds like the bearing is bad and will need to be replaced. A sure sign of this is roaring during the spin cycle.

Drew, You will want to look at the helix WP40047402 on the tub pulley at the bottom of the unit and make sure that it is not causing the clicking noise. The other thing that could cause this would be the brake pads being loose. Also check under the inner tub to make sure that there is nothing caught in there that would cause the noise. Last but not least check the drain pump 27001233 to make sure that there is nothing in it that would cause the noise. In most cases the brake pads have come loose and would need to be replaced. The brake pad part number is R0000014 and would need silicone grease to put on the pads which is part number WP26594P.
