The Circulation Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for pumping water through the spray arms to ensure thorough cleaning of dishes during the wash cycle. This motor helps maintain consistent water pressure and flow, crucial for effective dishwashing performance.

Over time, the circulation motor can fail due to factors such as motor wear, electrical issues, or blockages that cause the motor to overheat or become damaged. Regular use and the buildup of debris or hard water deposits can also contribute to motor failure.

Symptoms of a bad circulation motor include:

  • Poor cleaning results
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not circulating properly
  • Dishwasher not completing cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Rumboogy for Model Number 665.16263400

I have a Kenmore dishwasher model that uses this motor. Each time the motor starts up there is a whining sound. This sound dissipates as the motor/pump spins up to full speed. It sounds normal once it is has been running for a 2-3 seconds or so. I tested the starting capacitor on the motor and it is within spec so that is not the problem. Is this an indication of the motor failing or the pump failing or something else like debris in the pump? Are there any videos on replacing these parts or taking the motor/pump assembly apart?

1 Answer

Hello Rumboogy. Check and make sure nothing is inside the impeller assembly. If not, you will need to order and replace the motor assembly on the unit.

Hello Tom, The first thing that you may want to check is to see if there is anything down in the pump assembly that would cause the noise. Depending on when you are hearing the noise could determine what has failed. Do you hear the noise during wash or do you hear it during the draining. If during draining you should replace drain pump WPW10348269. If during wash it would be circulation pump WPW10757217. You should look to see if you can determine where the leak is. Is there a hose leaking, is it leaking out of the door or is it leaking around the pump seal.

Kathy, There are several things to check first. Is the dishwasher filling properly. If you start the dishwasher, let it operte for 5 minutes, then open the door, the water level in the bottom of the tub should be within 1/4 inch (minimum) of the heater element, low water level will cause a sensing delay. Check and make sure the water temperature in the bottom of the tub is at least 120 dgrs.F.at the end of the fill cycle, when the motor starts to run, low water temperature will also cause an extended sensing cycle. And make sure there are no hard water deposits developing in the tub or on the heater element, and the detergent or rinse agent you use is not "foaming" / sudsing during the wash cycle.

Trouble for Model Number whirpool DU1301XTVQ2

Dishes in top rack are not washing at all. Dishwasher does not go into wash cycle. When it stopped working in 'normal' setting if starting using the 'pots and pans' setting and that was working fine but now even that doesnt clean....don't hear the whooshing of the water once dishwasher is started....just seems to be rinsing. The water is pretty hot and drains out and dishes come out dry but not clean. I am not sure if its the circulation motor, element heater or the cycle selector switch. I opened the door in the middle of washing to check water temp and its hot but the element itself is not...i am able to touch it....couple months back it used to get BRIGHT red now that doesnt happen. your help is most certianly appreciate.

Trouble, First thing, check the water level, Start the dishwasher, let it run 3 to 5 minutes, then unlatch the door. in a couple of seconds, open the door and remove the lower rack. If the water level is at least within 1/4 in. of the heater element, then there is enough water to wash properly, and you'll need to check the filter/accumulator 8193918, the impeller 8193951A and Sump housing for restrictions and clogs. Also check and make sure the detergent or rinse aid is not "foaming" during the cycle, the pump assembly won't pressurize properly if there's air/foam in the water.

Jonny, There are two ways to go, you can remove the pump assembly from the dishwasher then remove the motor and volute W11622922, and repair the impeller 8193951A and shaft seal or , you can remove the motor and vilute from the pump assembly without removing the dishwasher, if there's room. We'll send you the information you need to access and service the pump assembly.

Doug W. for Model Number KUDI01ILBS2

I have just received by circulation motor and began to unhook the old motor. After unplugging wires and removing the one bolt from the housing and twisting the motor to loosen, it does not come out. Should the motor just back out when loose or is there something I am missing. Do I need to pull the entire assembly out through the inside of the dishwasher or is it just stuck and needs to be pulled more firmly. I do not want to break anything. Thanks for your help.

Hello Doug, There are three white removable tabs that retain the pump and motor assembly to the bottom of the tub. One is front right, one is almost centered on the left, and one is in the rear. If you look at the parts explosion on page 9, (pump and motor page), it is item number 15, part number WPW10300599. When you look at the picture we have posted of the part, (not the drawing), when you click on the part, the picture shows the part upside down. The black rubber "grips" go up against the bottom of the tub. When you pull these three sump tabs out, the motor can be lifted out from inside the tub.

Hello Doug, There are two pump motors. The drain pump that is working will not require testing, but you need to see if the board is sending power to the circulation pump. The circulation pump W10782773 is the one that washes. The drain pump WP661658 is the one that drains.
