The Circulation Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for pumping water through the spray arms to ensure thorough cleaning of dishes during the wash cycle. This motor helps maintain consistent water pressure and flow, crucial for effective dishwashing performance.

Over time, the circulation motor can fail due to factors such as motor wear, electrical issues, or blockages that cause the motor to overheat or become damaged. Regular use and the buildup of debris or hard water deposits can also contribute to motor failure.

Symptoms of a bad circulation motor include:

  • Poor cleaning results
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not circulating properly
  • Dishwasher not completing cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Debra for Model Number KUDK03ITWH

My diswasher does not clean. It sprays water and drains. If I put it on heavy duty instead of normal wash it will clean the bottom rack but the items on top still do not get clean. A repair person came and cleaned the chopper which have a little lint or debris in it and surrounding area. It cleaned good on normal wash one time and then it no longer will clean except on heavy duty on the bottom rack. Also the small plastic cups I put on the bottom rack do not even turn over using the heavy duty so I do not think it is spraying water strong enough to clean. What can it be. The service tech thinks the motor cannot go out unless it stops completely. What can it be?

1 Answer

Hello Debra. Make sure the water is filling to the bottom of the heater assembly. If not, you will need to order and replace the water valve on the unit.

Hello Mickey, It sounds like a foreign object such as a piece of broken glass may be in the pump. The same noise can also be a bad winding in the motor or the voltage supplied to the motor can be missing a phase. If you didn't replace the sump, it could also be an item wrapped around the pump impeller, which would make it out of balance to spin evenly. This sort of problem is usually located by dis-assembly.

Dishwasher wasn't cleaning so I disassembled and found very clogged chopper screen. I cleaned chopper screen and reassembled. Dishwasher worked perfectly one time, then chopper screen clogged again. When dishwasher worked well for one time it appeared to fill/clean/drain correctly. I have a few questions: 1) Does the PTO from the circulation motor that drives the chopper mechanism turn independently from the circulation impellers on the circulation motor? If so then maybe the problem is the circulation pump. 2) Should the actual chopper blade turn freely and independently from the circulation pump? I've correctly installed the chopper and the drive teeth are properly meshed with circulation motor PTO, but if I hold the chopper blade it will stay stationary while I spin the circulation motor impellers. Maybe my chopper mechanism is broken? Any advice is much appreciated.

1 Answer

Hello Mike. If the chopper is bad, you should be able to see it is broke or bad. The impeller turns the chopper on this model. So if water is flowing, chopper is turning. It sounds like the chopper is broken on the unit, or the impeller teeth are stripped out.

Jared for Model Number KUDP01FLWH6

I have just purchased a used KA Model# KUDP01FLWH6. The previous owner stated it works perfectly (and I trust them), but when I installed machine in my house not so perfect. It fills and warms, but never sprays, and then drains. None of the sprayers wash (top, middle, nor bottom). I have removed and cleared everything in unit, even removing a large piece of glass at the chopper. Once everything was back in place, I primed the machine, and still no wash. I've tried everything I can think of. Is this a sign of a bad motor? Is there a way I can check for something else or test the motor? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I Have A Kitchen Aide Dishwasher With A Lg Motor P/N 8534941 Model # Dmr-170L1 It Seems To Be Leakin for Model Number LG motor P/N 8534941 Model # DMR-170L1

I have a Kitchen Aide Dishwasher with a LG motor P/N 8534941 Model # DMR-170L1 it seems to be leaking right out of the small shaft seal that comes out of the motor. Is this possibile? If so can I order just that part or do I have to order the whole motor? The magneto part seems fine and it seperates I just dont get how water would come out of the motor?

1 Answer

The manufacturer prefers you replace the motor assembly. If you're extremely careful, you can order the seal and washer 8193951A and WP8531018 but you'll need to be extremely careful, if you damage the impeller, you will need to install the motor kit WPW10757217. As for the leak from the seal, it's usually due to something small with sharp edges,(glass shards) circulating past the screens and impeller and damaging the seal. You may want to play it safe, and install the motor assembly.

A GLASS LID BUSTED IN DISHWASHER. I CLEANED ALL EASILY ACCESSIBLE GLASS OUT OF THE BOTTOM BUT AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE DISHWASHER WILL FILL UP AND DRAIN BUT DOESN'T CIRCULATE WATER AROUND AND CLEAN THE DISHES. I HAVE TAKEN APART EVERYTHING AND AM TO THE INLET PROTECTOR BUT AFTER REMOVING THE SCREW IT WILL NOT LIFT UP. ANY TRICKS TO REMOVE THIS SO I CAN SEE IF SOME GLASS IS STUCK IN THE CIRCULATION MOTOR OR IF IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED?

1 Answer

Kathleen, It sounds like you most likely have a damaged wash impeller, especially if you have brokrn glass in the pump. We're sending you some "how to" information that should help you out.If the impeller is damaged, you will need to order and install WPW10757217 motor assembly. The manufacturer has discontinued the impeller repair kit.

Hello Mike. Make sure the water level is good inside the unit. If so, replace the circulation pump WPW10757217. If not, replace the water valve. Needs to be close to the bottom of the heater.

My kitchen aid made what sounded like a grinding, loud noise after I started it. I went outside and forgot about it. I noticed a few hours later it did not say it was on the dry cycle...there was no noise at this point. When I opened the door It was extremely hot and steaming. It did not wash the dishes and just had water in bottom. I tried to start again and there was no noise...It will fill but that is it. It will make a click like it going on to the next thing but doesn't get any further. The water does not come out from the top so I was thinking maybe my circulation pump went bad? Any help will be grately appreciated.

1 Answer

Hello Ed. You will need to remove the lower spray arm and the top of the sump assembly to access and clean out the chopper. If something gets into the chopper, it makes a grinding noise. If there is nothing in there, then the motor WPW10757217 will need to be replaced.

My question is about a kitchenaid dishwasher that all of the sudden started making a high pitched squealing sound coming from the motor area. I took the insides of it apart to make sure there was nothing lodged in the chopper and stuff like that. Found nothing. Now the dishes don't even clean at all. They are just as dirty as when I put them in there before the cycle. To me it sounds like its defininitly the motor itself. I've heard that the seals go bad and let water into it. I just wanted to ask if you think I'm right. And do I just buy a motor and replace it? Or is there more parts to replace than just the motor?

1 Answer

Hello Andrew. Based on the information you provided, it does sounds like the motor is bad and needs to be replaced. It is best to replace the sump assembly W10782773 and not just the motor in the units. If there is an issue with the water level, you may need to replace the water valve in the unit as well.
