The Cover Seal is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This seal ensures a tight fit between the washer's cover and the tub, preventing water from leaking during the wash cycle. It helps maintain the efficiency and cleanliness of the washing process by keeping water contained within the tub.

Common causes of a bad seal include wear and tear over time, exposure to harsh detergents, or physical damage from regular use.

Symptoms of a bad cover seal include:

  • Water leaking from the washer
  • Excess moisture around the washer
  • Visible cracks or deformities in the seal
  • Reduced washing efficiency

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Replaced outer tub seal due to leak...still leaks. Clutch wobbly so kit on the way but with shell off see dropping from under clutch. It was suggested to replace shaft seal and I'm stuck getting flywheel off cause can't find video help. Trying to get up inside where the shaft of 12 inches goes up. Is there a seal inside...I have part wp8577374 and 8577376 on the way so hoping one of them is proper upper shaft seal. Only one actually called that did not fit the compatibility chart...help appreciated

Fixitrts, there are two upper seals, W11095997 / 357409 which is the lower seal in the upper portion of the tub support and bearing assembly, and encircles the basket drive shaft. The WP8577376 / 8577376 is the upper most seal and encircles the agitator shaft and is also seated inside the tub support assembly. But, if you have water leaking down the agitator shaft and onto the clutch assembly, you'll need to check to make sure the washer isn't overfilling, or the detergent being used is the proper type and amount and not sudsing. You also want to check and make sure the new tub seal is seated into the tub opening properly and seals around the tub support shaft.

Don, The lip will go down and over the shaft where the flat part will face up. It should just push into place and if not then you could tap with a rubber mallet to get on.

Bud for Model Number mvwc400vw1 centennial washer with low hours 5 years old.

I asked the previous question on this about the tranny oil leaking into the clothes. (yesterday) Is there a chance that the control switch could have caused this? The clothes were spun dry but there was no water in the tub. The agitator was moving a little but the basket was not spinning at the time. Every time the agitator would move just a little, the machine would go 'thunk'. Then the agitator would move back and the process would repeat all over again. It stopped when I pushed the knob in, but no matter where I set the dial, it would still just go thunk, thunk, thunk when I pulled the knob back out. So I just pushed the knob back in until the timer quit ticking, and the machine worked fine for about a week until It started leaking black grease from under the agitator. My A107 Maytag is still running fine after 40 years of use. How can this transmission be so sorry that it fails after 5 years?

Bud, The control switch would not cause grease to show up on clothing. The gear case would be the part that you would need with the unit clunking and putting grease on the clothing.

Bud for Model Number mvwc400vw1 centennial with low hours & easy use. 5 yrs old.

I bought a new maytag centennial 5 years ago. it has had light use with no problems until a couple weeks ago i washed a light load and they had spun dry as usual, but machine was going thunk, thunk, thunk, and not spinning. No matter wher I put the dial, it did the same thing. So I let the timer run out. Then the machine worked as normal. Until the next week, when I got black grease on my clothes from under the agitator. Do I need to replace the agitator seal, or the top case shaft seal? I am an ex auto/motorcycle mechanic. How do I remove the transmission? I have seen the great video you have on removing the tub.

Hello Coco. You need to check and see if the motor coupling 285753A is bad and needs to be replaced. As for the band, that is the sound damping ring and would not affect the spin cycle.
