This motor stator is the stationary windings for a direct-drive washer motor. Working with the rotor, it creates the magnetic field that turns the basket. Replacing a failed stator restores consistent wash and spin performance. What it does

  • Provides the fixed windings for the direct-drive motor
  • Works with the rotor to spin and tumble the basket
  • Failure can cause no spin/tumble, intermittent movement, or loud humming
  • May lead to motor/speed-related error codes and cycle shutdowns
What's included
  • 1 motor stator assembly
Install notes
  • Disconnect power before servicing; allow moving parts to stop
  • Access is typically from the rear; remove the rotor to expose the stator
  • Handle the rotor's strong magnets carefully and keep metal objects clear
  • Route and seat the wiring exactly as original; tighten mounting bolts evenly

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Motor Stator (Washer) (Part Number: OEM18063597)

Adam for Model Number WTW8800YC1

My control board caught fire during the spin cycle the other night. Heard loud "pop" with maybe some clunking followed, then smoke coming out of panel area. Washer completely dead so was hard to figure out what happened other than control board caught fire. Bought a used working control board because didn't feel catching a brand new on fire. Installed "new" non-burned control board, powered on just fine, but getting UL code and cycles going in a continuous loop. I expected the stator after seeing that it might be a possible culprit for the UL code. I found a nice size crack in the stator, could this be the culprit for my UL code and the cause of my control board shorting and catching fire?

1 Answer

Adam, If there is a crack in the stator then this would be the issue and would need to replace the stator on the unit.

Hello Rob, This is not recommended since there could be an electrical short or open caused by the crack. Also, if the stator ever contacts the rotor it can do serious damage to your machine, costing you much more money than just the replacement cost of the stator.

Hello Mark, The RPS and RPS Harness are both common failures on this model. They can be tested as per the tech sheet which is normally located in a plastic ziplock baggy adhered to the inside of the front panel of the cabinet.

David for Model Number WTW8800YC1

The seal and bearings went out so I replaced those. Now it is showing the F51 error code so I replaced the rotor position sensor and checked continuity between the RPS, motor, and board. All checked ok. I have successfully got it to spin once in manual diagnostic mode, but then it went back to F51. Lights show up on display showing that it is getting the RPS signal. When it tries to spin in diagnostic mode it is kind of jerky and then throws the code. Could this be a rotor/stator problem? There seems to be a little slack in it which I'm not sure if that's normal or not. Could it be the control board? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello David, This is most likely a harness W10297446 issue. You can check the motor where the RPS connects but if you replaced it, the issue will be in the wiring or the in the control.

Chelsie, This error would indicate an overload issue. Since you are running it empty when getting this error then check for mechanical friction on the drive mechanism not allowing the basket to disengage. This would require the tub to be pulled out to check the hub assembly.

Hello Chelsie, I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

David, We do not have a set failure rate but it is possible for the seal to leak and if it does it can damage the stator motor.

Jeff for Model Number Whirpool Cabrio Washing Machine

Hi! My Cabrio is making a scraping noise which I have identified as coming from the stator and rotor. I can see where they are scraping. After this began I would sometimes get the uL code with 12 minutes left in spin cycle. I have replaced they shaft, bearings, and seal along with all suspension hardware without any success. Even balancing the maching with a level has not helped. I have also reinstalled the stator and rotor twice to no avail. Any ideas? Thank you!

1 Answer

Hello Jeff. You will need to check and see if the rotor or stator is bad and will need to be replaced. Sounds like they may be bad since everything else is new on the unit. Thank you.

Hello Jim. You will need to keep pulling it off and slowly turning it repositioning it until it drops into place. Thank you.
