This motor stator is the stationary windings for a direct-drive washer motor. Working with the rotor, it creates the magnetic field that turns the basket. Replacing a failed stator restores consistent wash and spin performance. What it does

  • Provides the fixed windings for the direct-drive motor
  • Works with the rotor to spin and tumble the basket
  • Failure can cause no spin/tumble, intermittent movement, or loud humming
  • May lead to motor/speed-related error codes and cycle shutdowns
What's included
  • 1 motor stator assembly
Install notes
  • Disconnect power before servicing; allow moving parts to stop
  • Access is typically from the rear; remove the rotor to expose the stator
  • Handle the rotor's strong magnets carefully and keep metal objects clear
  • Route and seat the wiring exactly as original; tighten mounting bolts evenly

For Whirlpool Motor Stator (Washer) (Part Number: OEM18063597)

J.S. for Model Number WTW6600SG2

Whenever it comes the time in a cycle for the drum to spin or even turn, the washer stops with an F50 code. Entering diagnostics will reveal both the F50 and F51 codes. After reading several threads, I replaced the RPS sensor, the wiring harness (came in a kit with the sensor), and the control module. In the manual testing mode, the wash, rinse, and spin lights illuminate when rotating the drum. I have to wonder if I got bad parts or if I should have replaced the stator instead.

1 Answer

Hello J.S., The F50 indicates that the RPS is not sensing the motors' rotation. This could just be the fact that the motor is not rotating but the F51 fault is the code that directly indicates the RPS has failed. This can be an issue with the RPS, the harness, or the control board WPW10189966.

First check the spin basket, make sure there's nothing stuck in one of the drain openings in the tub and rubbing on the outer tub. Then raise check the washer front and check the motor rotor and the center bolt for being loose and out of alignment. If all's ok, then remove the spin basket and check the basket hub and drive gear, to see if they're damaged or clogged with sediment or debris, this would usually present an error code, but not always.

Adam for Model Number WTW6700TW1

I've replaced the shaft and bearings on my Whirlpool Cabrio. Once i've put it back together to do a test, it gave me a F50 error code and it won't spin. I did the automatic diagnostic test on the machine and still it wouldn't spin. i tried the test again and open the lid to give it a spin to see if it would do something during the spin test then it started spinning wildly and it was noisy with a banging/grinding sound from the rotor rea. The other times i did the test, and i didn't touch the washing plate to kickstart the spin cycle, it wouldn't spin and give me the F50 error code. I also noticed that there's an area on the stator that the wire from one of the wiring coil is broken. What could be the problem?

1 Answer

Adam, This issue would most likely be caused by a RPS sensor that is not in place properly or that the rotor and stator being damaged.

Hello David. It sounds like the stator is not seated properly and is sitting up to high for the rotor to be rubbing it. Try repositioning the stator.

Brady, You will want to make sure that the shaft is in place properly where it is not angled. If the bearing and shaft did not get in straight then it will cause this issue.

Hello Anthony. If the unit gives a UL code, even when empty, you will need to order and replace the suspension rods W10820048 on the unit. Thank you.

1 Answer

Joe, The F51 error code is for the RPS sensor and you will want to check the wiring between the RPS sensor and motor to the control board to make sure that there is no faulty wiring. If this checks ok then the RPS sensor will be the most likely cause for this issue.

Hello Dale. As long as the stator is working properly it should be fine. If it starts giving you problems then I would recommend replacing it.
