The Suspension Rod Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes four suspension rods designed to support the washing machine's tub assembly. By absorbing vibrations and stabilizing the tub during the spin cycle, these rods play a crucial role in reducing noise and preventing the washing machine from moving excessively.

Causes of a bad Suspension Rod Kit can include normal wear and tear, overloading the washing machine, or frequent heavy cycles that put extra strain on the rods.

Symptoms of a bad Suspension Rod Kit include:

  • The washing machine is excessively noisy during the spin cycle.
  • The tub seems unbalanced or moves more than usual, even with light loads.
  • The washing machine "walks" or moves from its original position during operation.
  • Unfinished cycles or error codes indicating an unbalanced load.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

For Whirlpool Suspension Rod Kit (Part Number: OEM17955348)

Richard A. for Model Number WTW6600SW2

Just acquired an 7 yr. old Cabrio. During a normal cycle it did not agitate. It never got passed C1 of the diagnostic test mode - just kept filling up. Afterwards, with water just covering the agitator during C1, C2 - C5 was forced; the agitator moved twice then stopped with "OL" displayed. Later, noticed that with water in the tub the basket can be pushed down only about 1/16 in. It seems that the basket's not floating as it should. My next step was to check for a corrosion on the basket shaft and then check the suspension rods. (The stator does have a couple of 1 1/4 in. radial cracks.). Any thoughts?

Richard, Check and make sure the washer drain hose isn't too low, and allowing the washer to syphon. The washer tub isn't filling high enough to float the tub (it needs to rise 3/8 of an inch in order to float the tub, or it will cause the "OL" code " - Load size exceeds washer capacity. Remove excess laundry, then restart cycle. ? Mechanical friction on drive mechanism, not allowing the basket to disengage." You would also want to check and clear the air tube and conduct the water level & pressure transducer calibration (test#6) The suspension rods shouldn't be an issue at this point and the cracks in the stator will be a problem down the line. Recheck and make sure the "teeth" on both hubs W10820039 aren't damaged or distorted.

Tim, You will want to make sure that the suspension springs are in properly and not shifted at all. Check to make sure that the pressure hose is attached to the tub properly and that all wire connections are properly made. If these things all check ok then the issue will end up being a faulty control board.

Melissa, With the unit working properly in the heavy cycle then the issue would not be with the bearings. The most likely cause for the failure would be a faulty control board. You can try to unplug the unit for 3 minutes and allow the control to reset. If the issue persists then the issue will be in the control.

Chris for Model Number Whirlpool Cabrio WTw6400sw3

Ok you already told me what replacement rods to order. Next question. Is there a quick fix until I get them. I opened the lid and took out one of the rods to get a look at it and to clean it off. After doing so I returned the rod to its correct position and closed the lid. Then I placed the machine on Drain & Spin, and pressed start. Now it will run for a minute or two and go back to UL error. I used to keep trying over and over and it would eventually run all the way through. Now it is not. Is there anything I can do while waiting, instead of going out to do laundry?

1 Answer

Chris, Unfortunately there is not a quick fix until the part comes in. The only thing to do is wait for the parts and install when received.

Hello Bonnie. The model number you provided does have the clips WP8563785 that you release on the front panel to raise the top. They are very hard to press in though.
