Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Fuse (Part Number: OEM18024984)

Heck R., Thank you for your question. With the element short cycling then this will most likely be either a faulty hi limit thermostat or the cycling thermostat which would need to be replaced.

Justin for Model Number RED4516FW0

I have a roper dryer that is not turning on at all. It was working and heating, then stopped heating. Now will not turn on at all.Have power coming into the dryer and passing in through the dryer.I checked the basic most obivious things like the push button switch. It has continuility when pressed in,so that seems to be working normal.Checked the door switch and again when activated.it has continuity so that also seems to be working.Checked timer on dryer and voltage going in and coming out in cycle settings. That seems to be working okay.Checked your site and diagram of the dryer and seen no safety switch on the motor or pulley arm that could be bad to stop it from working.Belt is still installed on pulley arm and motor and drum.you can still spin it manually. Before i open it up,i wanted to see if your had any advice on what else could be causing the dryer to not start up at all.Could one of the fuses or tstats or sensors on inside of dryer cause this.If so where could i start.Could it possibly be a bad motor, maybe motor burnt up and dryer is not starting upo cause of that. How would i check the motor out besides seeing if i have power coming into when trying to start the dryer.I know they have ways to check motor with multi meter to see if it is showing bad or not.Any help or advice would very much be appreciated

Justin, Based on the information provided and things checked, the most likely thing to check next would be the thermal fuse. It is located on the blower housing with two light blue wires going to it. If the thermal fuse is open, then you will need to check your venting, as the most common reason for a thermal fuse to blow is airflow.

Hello Eric, thank you for contacting Appliance Parts Pros. I would recommend checking the heating element WP8544771 WP8544771 hasn't grounded out and reads about 7-12Os, as well as inspecting the wiring for any pinched/grounded/broken wires to it.

Hello Bob, thank you for contacting APP, This could be an airflow issue such as the vent through the home or the interior of the cabinet of the unit needing to be cleaned out, or lint trapped in the blower housing and channel. If the venting and unit are clear of debris/obstruction then we would be looking at the potential for the Heating Element WP3387747 / WP3387747 to have failed/grounded out, or the Cycling Thermostat WP3387134 / WP3387134 and Hi-Limit Thermostat WP3390291 / WP3390291 being stuck closed.

Hello Khalid, thank you for contacting APP, If the unit will power up but does not start it could be one of several issues. The Electronic Control W10339957 or User Interface W10110646 may have failed, unfortunately, it does not appear that either of these parts are available any longer from the manufacturer. The Drive Motor 279787 may have a bad winding or have otherwise failed, if you are hearing a buzzing or humming noise when the unit is supposed to be running right after starting a cycle it is most likely this motor. The Door Switch WPW10318609 may not be making properly, this part is also no longer available.

Sammy, if the motor hums when the start button is held, the door would need to be opened and the door switch taped down. If the drum will start turning when the start button is held and the drum rotated by hand, the motor 279827 has failed. If the motor does not start to rotate, the power cord would need to be unplugged from the dryer outlet. From there, the timer WP8299779 would need to be tested for continuity when set to a cycle. There should be continuity from terminal BK to terminal BU if the timer is good. If the timer has continuity, the most likely cause of failure would be the thermal fuse WP3392519. This can fail if the dryer vent or house duct is clogged with lint and cleaning both would be recommended.

Matthew, if the ignitor glows non-stop after the first time and does not cycle, the igniter 279311 has failed. If the igniter does cycle on and off, the coils 279834 would be the most likely failure.

Marjorie, Based on the information provided you will need to check with a multimeter both the thermal fuse and the belt switch. You will also need to check the heater for a shorted element, as the heat should not come on unless the motor is running.
