The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It is a critical safety component designed to protect the dryer from overheating by blowing and cutting off power if the temperature exceeds safe limits. This disposable, one-time fuse is essential for preventing potential fire hazards and ensuring the appliance operates within safe temperatures.

Symptoms of a bad Thermal Fuse include:

  • The dryer not starting or suddenly stopping during a cycle
  • No heat being produced while the dryer is running
  • Unexplained cessation of all dryer functions

Causes of a bad thermal fuse can stem from restricted airflow due to lint buildup, a malfunctioning heating element that causes excessive temperatures, or other electrical issues within the dryer.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Danny, the control board is not seeing wet clothes hitting the dry sense bars and thinks the clothes load is dry, and goes into Cool Down mode. Check the sensor bars are intact and clean them with a little alcohol on a paper towel, if still the same then check the wires attached to the sensor bars and follow them back to the control board looking for any wire problems, if they check ok then the sense circuit in the main control board may have failed..

CK, You most likely have a weak , faulty gas valve coil 279834 / 279834 Dryer Gas Valve Coil Kit. The coils will weaken with time and usage, and produce intermittent heat during the dryer heat cycle. Remove the lower access panel, and start the dryer, allow the dryer to cycle for 10 or 15 minutes, Eventually you'll probably see that the igniter cycles on and off, but there is no flame from the burner. This indicates the coils have failed and are not releasing the gas for the ignition and heat process.
