The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It is a critical safety component designed to protect the dryer from overheating by blowing and cutting off power if the temperature exceeds safe limits. This disposable, one-time fuse is essential for preventing potential fire hazards and ensuring the appliance operates within safe temperatures.

Symptoms of a bad Thermal Fuse include:

  • The dryer not starting or suddenly stopping during a cycle
  • No heat being produced while the dryer is running
  • Unexplained cessation of all dryer functions

Causes of a bad thermal fuse can stem from restricted airflow due to lint buildup, a malfunctioning heating element that causes excessive temperatures, or other electrical issues within the dryer.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Thermal Fuse (Disposable, One Time Fuse) (Part Number: OEM18024936)

Ricard R for Model Number Sears, 11076912692

Dryer doesn't turn on after running for a while. It starts and runs and dries, then stops. Won't restart until after it cools down for 1/2 hr or so. Have recently taken off the bottom front panel and vacuumed the collected dust. It ran ok. When this problem starts the interior light comes on when the door is opened. The light will go out when I manually press the door interlock switch. Is there some sort of an overtemp switch in the circuit. Where would that switch be. What is the switch measuring.

1 Answer

Ricard, It sounds likely that the motor on the unit is overheating in which you will want to check the rollers and idler pulley to make sure that they are not seizing up which would cause this but also the lint build up could have caused it as well.

Tethion, The thermistor you would have to do a resistance reading on. The thermal cutoff showing OL would indicate that this is bad and would need replaced.

Eric, You will want to check the wiring of the unit to make sure there is no damaged or shorted wires and if this checks ok will most likely be a faulty control board.

Carol, If you push the start button and it starts but stops when the start button is released then this will be a issue with the motor centrifugal switch and the motor would need to be replaced.

Hello Mitzi, This will either be a coil 279834 or the gas valve WP8318281 has failed. Note that if the valve is the issue, the replacement valve comes ready for natural gas. If you have LP, it will need to be converted using the internal parts under the brass nut.

Jose, No you would not be able to use the thermal fuse WP3390719 in place of thermal fuse part number WP3392519. The reason is the way they are mounted and also have a different blow rate.
