Part Number: OEM18042099
Manufacturer Part Number: WP9759944

This fixed thermostat switches near 60C to control a heat-managed circuit—often the oven's cooling/blower fan. Replacing a failed unit restores proper fan cycling and helps protect the control area from excessive heat during and after cooking.

  • Monitors temperature in the oven cabinet/control area and switches power based on heat level
  • Cycles the cooling/blower fan on and off to manage cabinet temperature
  • Helps safeguard electronic controls from heat buildup
  • Failure may cause symptoms such as a fan that won't run, a fan that runs continuously, or an unusually hot control area
What's included: 1 fixed thermostat (60C, SPST) Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker before servicing
  • Access the thermostat per your model; it is typically mounted to a plenum or bracket near the oven cavity
  • Move wires one at a time and mount the new thermostat flat against the surface for accurate sensing
  • Restore power and verify the fan cycles during operation

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Thermostat (Fixed, 60C Spst) (Part Number: OEM18042099)

Randy, It is not showing that one would replace the other and you will want to use the one the manufacturer states to use for your unit as there may be a temperature variation that will not allow the other to work properly for your unit.

Andrei for Model Number KESA907PSS00

When I turn the front left burner on (single or dual setting) the burner will come on for a second then shut off, then come on, then shut off... etc etc etc... Sometimes it comes on and holds temperature but more often than not it'll just click back and forth. It started with one medium setting not holding temperature and then began the clicking. Wondering if that it the switch or the thermal limiter in the surface element or something else. The rest of the burners work with no problems. Thanks.

Andrei, the switch can be tested at the terminal using the orange wire (with black tracer stripe) for 120VAC to ground with a voltmeter. Disconnect the wire with the range unplugged from the outlet and secure the wire so that it does not touch anything. From there, the range would be plugged back in and the switch would be turned on to the dual heat setting. If the terminal stops sending 120VAC when the burner clicks off, the switch has failed. If it does not stop sending 120VAC, the element W10823692 has failed. Unfortunately, the infinite switch kit W10307362 has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

Rob, it is likely that the thermal limiter in the element W10823692 is not operating properly. You can check the switch to ensure that it is continuously sending the voltage to the element. If it is, then the element has failed.

Hello Allen. Test the temp sensor and if it is good, you will need to replace the control board on the unit. Thank you.

Mark, You will need to check or replace the heating element thermal fuse WP9759243 / 4451442 Thermostat (TOD)(Temp.) SPST located on the back of the oven cavity. If/when the oven overheats the fuse "opens" and interrupts the L2 power supply to the bake and broil elements, and the oven won't heat. Also check and make sure the blower fan comes on and circulates the air under the cooktop.

Roger, The elements are designed to cycle off and on. If the element is shutting off completely and not coming back on then you will want to check to see if there is 240 vac getting to the element still when it shuts down. If there is not then the the switch is faulty and if there is then the element is faulty.

Hello Ted. Check and make sure all your wiring is good. If so then the control board has failed. The control board has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part.

Barry for Model Number KGSS907SSS00

Hi, I have a similar question to one that was posted but a slightly different model. We ran the KitchenAid oven on self clean and it stopped near the end of the cycle. Oven display went blank door remained locked. I replaced the thermostatic fix on the back of the oven, (part no 9759242), no change, I opened the front of the panel looking for another thermal fuse, I don't have a continuity tester. Two similar thermostatic fix components, part numbers 9759944 and 9757807, are located behind the display. I bypassed the 9759944 and the fan comes on, I understand that this circuit needs to reach a certain temp to activate the fan, Bypassing 9757807 does nothing. Do I need to test the continuity of these two parts? Is there another thermal fuse in the control panel area? Thanks Barry

1 Answer

Barry, Bypassing the fan thermal will allow the fan to come on. You will want to do a continuity test on the other thermostat to make sure that there is continuity. If this checks ok then this issue will most likely be a faulty control board for the unit.
