The Upper Oven Thermal Fuse is an OEM part compatible with Whirlpool double wall ovens. Located near the upper oven heating element, this safety device protects the upper oven cavity from excessive heat rises. If temperatures get too high, the fuse automatically cuts power to prevent overheating.

Symptoms of a blown upper oven thermal fuse include:

  • The upper oven failing to heat or losing total heating function
  • Burning smells emanating from the upper oven cavity
  • Safety shutdown errors related to over-temperature conditions

Common causes are airflow restriction trapping heat or faulty wiring allowing overheating. Natural aging also deteriorates fuses over extended use cycles.

Compatible brands include KitchenAid, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore wall oven models.

Hello Phillip. If the clock is still blank, you may have a bad thermal fuse WP4451042 on the control panel. If the unit is working, but just the heat is not working, then it could be a bad thermal overload WP9759243 on the unit. You can test the thermal overload on the unit. It should read closed for continuity on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Bobby. It sounds like a wire mayhave got against metal and shorted out. If so, it may have damaged the control board 4452240 on the unit. You will need to remove the back cover and look for a shorted wire on the unit.

Hello Rhonda. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the oven sensor WPW10131825 is not shutting the temperature off properly. If the oven works fine during the bake mode, but fails and blows the cut-off during the self clean, you may have a bad sensor in the unit.

Hello Jason. The oven sensor WP4451665 may be bad and allowing the oven to over heat and blow the thermal overload. If you replace the sensor and the problem continues, then the control will need to be replaced on the unit. Hope this helps.

Hi Rosie. There is a oven safety thermostat mounted in the center behind the very back. You need to remove power and jump these 2-wires together. Does the unit come on again? If so it is part # WP9759243. What is puzzling me is that even so , you should be able to select the command even if the part is bad. From what is explained, it sounds like you may have a loose connection. Check the terminal block for issues and make sure the wire connections are tight. Take a look behind the clock control to insure all wires are tight. Make sure the control panel gasket is intact and spongy, if it has gotten hard it might allow the oven heat to escape into the clock control area and overheat the control part # WP8302994. It is temporarily out of stock, but Availability is expected on December 28. Thank You.

After a self-clean, the over would not heat. I ordered part 4451442 (Thermal Overload) and on your web site it shows a picture of the exact part. When I received the order, I received part 9759243 (THRMST-FIX). The body of the part I received is much smaller than the original, however, the screws fit and the plug fit on the prongs perfectly. I just want to be sure the replacement part is supposed to be smaller than the original. (A picture of the part I actually received can be found by looking at part number AP4320019)

Brian for Model Number Whirlpool RBS3059DO16

My 6 year old electric oven worked great. I did a self cleaning mode yesterday and today I tried to back sonething and there is no heat any either element. The digital display works fine and everything looks like it is working but there is no heat. It starts in the pre-heat cycle and the clock runs down but nothing. I even tried the Broil and Cleaning cycles again but still no heat from either of the two elements. Thanks for your response.
