Chuck August 09, 2013 for Model Number roper electric dryer model rex3514pq0 How do I know if I need a heating element,a thermal fuse or a high limit thermostat?. Is there a way to test each part before a buy them?.....
1 Answer Hello Chuck. Yes, all the parts should read closed for continuity if they are good. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Judy August 03, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool Dryer Model Number LEN2000KQ1 I am replacing the heating element. On the video, you show 3 wires that connect to the heating element. You show one top wire that goes into the black thermostat, and 2 that go into prongs on the bottom piece - one is deeper into the dryer and the 2nd is closer to outer. My drier has only TWO wires that are connected. I have one that goes into the top black, and one that goes into the prong closest to me. I do not have the one that goes into the deeper prong - appears to be an orange wire from the video. I looked around and can't find a wire that may have broken off. I took out the old heating element and it appears to be cracked so I think the problem with the dryer not heating is that. BUT I need to know if it is ok - with my type of drier - to have only two wires connected instead of the 3 that you show in the video. My order # 3549044 and the part number I ordered is WPL 279838. The dryer is 10 years old. Thank you very much!!!
1 Answer Judy, Your black thermostat connects to the heater terminal, you would simply need 1 wire to the terminal on the hi limit thermostat and 1 wire to the heating element. Read More...
Deon August 01, 2013 for Model Number Ler5636jqo My dryer wasn't getting hot and I changed the heating element Dryer still doesn't get hot. What could be the problem?
1 Answer Deon, First make sure you have 240 VAC at the terminal block on the back of the dryer. Reset the breaker in the panel a few times, then re check. The you'll need to check or replace the thermal fuse and hi limit thermostat 279816. The thermal cut off will eliminate power to the element, if it has an "open" circuit, it is also a "one shot" fuse, once it opens, it has to be replaced. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Dan. No, gas dryer uses an igniter and a burner to make the heat with the gas. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Jerry. It should read clsoed for continuity. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Robert July 08, 2013 for Model Number Wed5300vw0 My dryer was popping my breaker, I could reset the breaker and continue the cycle. Now it's popping the breaker and not running at all.
1 Answer Hello Robert. It sounds like the breaker may be bad and need to be replaced on the unit. I would start there before tearing into the dryer. Read More...
Russ June 24, 2013 for Model Number 110 60852990 My heat element is reading open, all the discussions here talk about shorted elements. Based on the schematic it looks like a working element should read 8-12 ohms. Is that correct? What would cause an element to fail open?
1 Answer Russ, Yes, you should have a resistance reading of 7 to 12 ohms resistance when you place your meter leads across the heater element terminals, with the wires disconnected. If you have no resistance reading(infinite resistance) then the element is "open" and won't heat. Of course there are several reasons why an element may fail, a weak spot in the resistance wire, a kink or sharp bend in the wire. will create a weak spot and after the electricity has flowed through the wire, the expansion and contraction process can cause the wire to separate, and stop heating. This can also occur "normally" based on usage, age, etc. Read More...
Phil June 14, 2013 for Model Number LTE5243DQ9 The dryer was not getting hot enough so I checked the element and found it was partially burned out. I found part of the element melted/shorted to the metal heat tube it gets installed in. The new element touches the side also when it is installed. That does not make sense to me that it touches the sides. Is that a design flaw? The machine is only a little over a year old. Thanks for your help. Phil
1 Answer Hello Phil. If installed properly, the element will not touch the sides of the heater box. If it does, you need to replace the box, it is warped. Read More...
Connie May 29, 2013 for Model Number WED5200VQ1 My dryer has started intermittently running with no heat. Usually after starting and stopping and changing between high and medium heat settings, I can get it to run with heat. The heat seems too hot on all settings. All vents are clear. Does this sound like a thermostat issue or a heating element issue or both? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
1 Answer Hello Connie. You need to test the temp switch WP3399640 and make sure it is good on the unit. If not, it will cause the issue you are having. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
