First checked the power then took off the compresser connections cover looked for burnt wires or loose or disconnected wires they were none of those I then removed the wires from the starter an overload protector removed them checked both for contunuaty overload protector no contunuaty then I checked the 3 poles on the comp. for contunuaty they were ok then I checked each pole to ground on the com. to final check that the comp. was still good Read more

Replaced start relay and capacitor. Good news, repair successful. Bad news, parts supplied are not direct fit plug and play on my Frigidaire model. Supplied parts are larger than the original. Wire retaining clip needs to be modified to hold relay in position against compressor. Original Molex connector did not connect to the supplied relay. We replaced the main circuit board and the LED started to work and the condenser fan worked, but all we had were relay clicking sounds, but no cooling. The compressor had become so hot trying to work when the main circuit board was amiss, that it had popped the over temperature sensor on its side. The smell was bad. Burnt wires but smelled like it could be a critter. Saw that the starter relay smoked after a cycle. Ordered the part.(sunday). Part recieved on Monday. I suspected the start-relay and tested it due to the lint plugged condenser coils. The start-relay rattled when shook, a telling sign it is no good due to over heating. I tested the compressor terminals and compared them the results with the Tech Data Sheet found with the unit, to find my compressor was still good. I checked the start capacitor with a capacitor tester, comparing the results with the rating printed on the side of the capacitor and found it to be good. I cleaned the condenser... Read more

First I spent time researching. Then I looked at the control panel, which to my DIY eye looked great. Then I replaced the overload and run capacitor. And that fixed the problem. The repair itself took less than 15 minutes but I spent about 30 additional minutes researching and watching repair videos. Note that It takes some effort to access and pull the damaged part out of the socket on the compressor. Read more

Research question lead to others that had the same issue. Consensus lead to a common repair. Compressor overload switch going bad. After ordering the correct parts, I changed out both the switch and the motor start capacitor just in case. After cleaning the equipment, I then put everything back together. Results were, clicking gone, seems to be quieter operation because of cleaning, more efficient cooling and nerves calmed. Read more
