Used a muiltimeter to test all parts and ohm'ed out all parts. found out condenser fan motor seized up [open winding in motor] replaced that, and found that also caused the compressor overload and relay to fail, from over heating and over cycling, replaced both parts, powered up the refrigerator retested all electrical parts checked amp reading on all parts under load conditions,works good know, hope to get another 15 years out of this refrigator, its a maytag. over 20 years old. I read alot of blogs about the same similar symptom, but none described by exact problem. I kept reading how the compressor relay would make a click noise or sisal. I also found out the overload switch could cause a like symptom. The end result being that upon removal of the relay, it was discolored and made a rattling noise when shook. Thawed out the evap/heat exchanger assembly, replaced the overload/relay kit as well as the defrost control board and the fridge was back in business, everything working fine. I'm kicking myself for not ordering these parts earlier. there was a clicking sound coming from the compressor that I ignored which was a huge mistake. Read more

Turn the power off to the range. Pull off the black control knob. Remove 6 - 5/16 screws in back of the range behind the controls panel. Take out 2 screws (behind the control knob) in front that hold the control swirch in the panel. Remove each wire from the old switch and place it onto the new switch (one at a time)so get the wires are installed in the correct place. Make sure the wire are tight on the new switch. Purchased new evaporator/heater/sensor assembly from appliance parts. Removed new heater, sensor and wire harness from new assembly and from existing unit in refrig section. Then installed new heater and sensor on old refrig evaporator, avoiding complex soldering and recharge with Freon. Once repaired all failure indications cleared and refrigerator section performing like new. Also purchased new heater for water tank and several broken plastic parts that went in in 2 minutes. Now it was running smoothly with the additional temperatures that I replace in the Freezer side and the refrigerator side. Also,replaced the capacitors for the compressors to start the systems. I ordered the compressor starting device kit and run capacitor to replace the burnt parts. It works right off the bat! The parts are for a Kenmore fridge/freezer. Pulled the relay off of the condenser motor (3 pin connection) and removed 2 wire feeds. Reversed the procedure for the install. Ordered the new relay and decided to replace the run capacitor as well just to be safe. Appliance Parts Pros was a really good website to help identify the 2 part numbers and see pictures that confirmed they were the same as the original. Price was competitive with others. Read more
