It was fairly obvious that the washer drainer motor had failed, water was not draining, filter was clean (bottom lower left panel door, have a pail ready!) and drain line was not blocked. With much trepidation, I Googled leaking washing machines and deduced that our problem was likely (but not certain) that we needed to replace the direct drive washer pump. The original pump was getting jammed intermittently, more and more often. I cleaned it out, but that didn't help the jamming. So I ordered a new pump. Have your new pump on hand and look at it to see how it attaches. The original pump, a different part number than the replacement, lasted about 7 years of almost everyday use, with multiple loads each day. I opened the cover panel of the control board. I visually checked for burns on the board and verified all connectors were firmly seated. I opened the bottom of the unit, and I saw the service manual in a zip-lock bag. From this manual, I verified that the drain pump resistance is good, the start capacitor is good, and the lid switch is good. I entered diagnostic service mode. There was a loud noise from my washer during the drain cycle. (The washer seemed to drain just fine.) It was pretty easy to determine that the noise was coming from the drain pump. (Which for my washer is behind the front lower inspection panel on the right side front.) I have a 12 year old Kenmore Elite washer. One day, suddenly, I heard a grinding noise and the washer abruptly stopped. So, Saturday, the washer wouldn't drain, yes, I tried the Drain/Spin cycle. So I took the clothes out, rinsed them out twice in the laundry sink and dried them. Conducted research on web, and via direct contact with AppliancePros where a diagnosis of replacing the water inlet valve and cleaning the sensor tube would "most probably" (80%) handle the issue. The remaining uncertainty would reside in the electronic board circuitry. I found a video, by another parts vendor, that showed in detail how to dismantle and repair the washer. I wouldn't have known how to even get to the problem without that repair video. Dismantling the washer was easy once I knew how, but would have been like a (litteral) Chinese puzzle without the video.
