Dryer won't heat or shows E64 error? High-limit thermostat cuts power if overheating occurs. Moderate DIY fix with our video guide and instructions.
My appliance repair guy checked out the problem, but the stack washer dryer required the contractor to dismantle the cabinet to allow the repair to occur. So i wanted the parts available for the repair, so we would not have to have the dryer pulled apart in a small space for an extended time i ordered the parts on Friday afternoon and they arrived at my home before noon on Saturday! The contractor and the repairman were able to coordinate the repair on Tuesday morning, and though the... Read more
Dryer won't start or shuts off unexpectedly? A failed thermal limiter is often the cause. This safety fuse prevents overheating. DIY repair in 30-45 minutes.
Recommendations have fun and a bucket to prevent losing parts. First watch the videos, practice disassemble and reassemble the dryer drum. Make certain you have a good screw driver and spatula from kitchen (could not find my putty knife). Secondly, clean and inspect everything, make sure the motor bearing and belt pulleys are in good condition with little or no play. Third after you have confidently disassembled, vacuum cleaned, inspected all the worn parts, grease the motor and pulley,... Read more
Washer won't drain or spin? A clogged or failed drain pump is the likely cause. This part removes water from the tub between cycles. DIY repair in 15-30 minutes.
So, Saturday, the washer wouldn't drain, yes, I tried the Drain/Spin cycle. So I took the clothes out, rinsed them out twice in the laundry sink and dried them. After a quick Google search, I came to the conclusion that the pump was bad and ordered a pump, $125. Over the course of the next four days, expecting the new pump on Thursday, I baled out the washer, pulled it out from the wall and propped up the front (it's HEAVY), removed the front access panel, removed the drain inlet and outlet... Supports the dryer drum for smooth rotation. Replace if your dryer squeals, makes grinding noises, or the drum sags. Verify fit with your model number.
The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. Just believe the older models are worth fixing, if at all possible. Frist we had to figure out what parts we would need and if the cost would be worth our time. I went on YouTube: and type in Kenmore dryer not turning on. Watched several videos to narrow down the possible problem. Next step was to... Read more
Drive belt connects motor to drum for wash and spin cycles. Replace if washer won't spin, clothes stay wet, or you smell burning rubber. Verify fit.
I replaced the spin bearing, tub seal, washer and drive belt since I had it all apart. The video was extremely helpful...I would have tore the whole thing apart trying to figure out how the agitator came off....but it was very simple. Read more

Dryer not heating or clothes staying damp? This heating element restores proper drying. Moderate DIY repair—requires disassembly and multimeter testing.
Dryer won't start or stops mid-cycle? A broken door catch prevents secure closure, triggering safety shutoffs. Simple snap-in replacement, 1 minute.
The very easy diagnosis was motor seizure. Because the machine is about a decade old, I decided to renovate most of the guts. My DIY project included replacing the motor, blower, drum bearing, belt, and door hinge. The end result is a functional dryer with no left-over parts. Lack of parts and hardware challenged the effort. For example, the blower assembly did not have the slide capture for the motor. I had to use the old one which is showing its age. With the exception of the drum... Read more

Supports the rear of your dryer drum for smooth, even rotation. Replace if drum wobbles, makes noise, or doesn't turn properly. Verify fit by model number.
Enables smooth drum rotation in your washer. Replace if you hear loud roaring or whirling noises during spin cycle. Confirm fit with your model number.
Idler arm assembly maintains drum belt tension in your dryer. Replace if the pulley is cracked, worn, or the arm is broken to restore smooth drum rotation.
Main problem was worn bearings in the motor, which was replaced. Additional issues were worn pulley on tensioner and impeller slipping on motor shaft. Pulley was replaced and hose clamp was used to secure blower on shaft. Read more
Fix a dryer making grinding, rumbling, or knocking noises after stopping. Blower wheel wears from heat causing cracks and loose clamps. Front access repair.
The blower wheel center was worn down and spinning freely on shaft. Removing front covers, controls and brackets gave access to blower, which front half came off removing screws. (One screw underneath bracket) Pushed new blower on. (It's keyed and has small tabs that line up with groove on shaft). Installed clamp, reassembled and tested. Don't forget to pull the plug out before working on any appliance. Read more
Fix loud whirling noise during spin cycle with this washer spin bearing washer. Supports the belt pulley bearing for smooth rotation. Video available.
Washer won't fill with water or only fills with hot? The water inlet valve controls water flow into the tub. DIY repair takes about 30 minutes.
This is my third repair of this type. The first was a stand-alone washer and was very easy, because there was a plate on which the inlet valve assembly was mounted, and it was easily removed. This repair was on a Frigidaire stacked washer/dryer (laundry center). Stacked washer/dryers are typically purchased to save space and are often tucked into a closet. Be sure you can pull it out to access both front and rear. Remove drain hose from drain, detach water hoses, electricity and dryer vent... Read more
Dryer door won't stay closed? The door strike secures the door latch during operation. Quick DIY fix—installs from the front in minutes.
My dryer door would not stay shut because the door strike was stuck in the door catch. I was afraid that when I pulled the strike out, it would damage the catch, so I ordered the door strike and door catch. I got the damaged door strike out with needle nosed pliers in about 15 seconds. The door catch was in perfect condition so I didn't need to use the one I ordered. So then I proceeded to install the new door strike. That took me about 15 minutes because I did not have the manual strength to... Read more
