Replace your freezer door gasket to restore an airtight seal and prevent frost buildup. Worn or torn gaskets let warm air in, causing ice formation and soft food. Confirm fit with your model number before ordering.
Frost & ice were building up inside the top of our upright freezer, so I replaced the door gasket. First I'll make my long story short, then I'll tell the longer story for those who might be interested and might benefit from my experience. Short version - The whole project took about three hours, but less than an hour of that would have been required if I were more of a handyman and if the freezer hadn't had prior work done on the door for the same frost buildup problem. Long version - When... Read more
Ice maker stopped making ice? This complete ice maker assembly resolves no ice production and leaking issues. Easy DIY install with video guide included.
Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug... Freezer runs constantly or has frost buildup? The defrost thermostat regulates temperature to prevent ice on coils. DIY-friendly repair in 1-2 hours.
Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. The only way to remove the control panel is to pry the panel out of the door using a thin-bladed putty knife. The instructions provided were very good in explaining the process;... Read more
Compressor clicks and won't start? Run capacitor helps start and run the compressor motor. Most DIYers replace in under 15 minutes with basic tools.
Noticed Rolls on the top shelf no longer frozen, though the meat around it still was. Note: This is a good test, keep something that thaws quickly and is not expensive on top shelf, to act as a barometer for your freezer health! I first found a trip online to advance the defrost timer, as a failed timer is a common issue. I advanced the timer, but nothing happened. I emptied the freezer, then removed the thermostat and tested it. No continuity! With the Freezer continuing to thaw, I... Read more
Ice maker not filling or leaking water? The water inlet valve controls flow to your ice maker and dispenser. Moderate DIY repair with video guide.
This was one of the easiest appliance repairs that I have ever done. I simply moved the refrigerator out of the cubby hole in which it resides, turned off the water supply at the wall, unplugged the electric cord, loosened the water supply line at the valve (had a water absorbent rag and small plastic bowl to catch what drained from the line), place it in the bowl and moved it aside. The valve was easily accessible and two screws detached it from the edge of the refrigerator box. Once loose, I... Read more
Refrigerator not cooling or compressor won't start? A failed run capacitor prevents the compressor from running. DIY repair in 10-15 minutes with video guide.
In short - I replaced the evaporator fan motor and the evaporator fan blade. The Appliance Parts Pros website was extremely helpful to me. Here's how. 1. The site helped me identify that even though my Freezer says it's a Frigidaire, it's actually an Electrolux. 2. The site identified the potential screech causing parts. (I didn't take a chance, I bought all three) It was a worthwhile investment. My freezer is 20 years old so it deserved some help. 3. The site provided guidance videos (not... Read more
Freezer running constantly or food thawing? A faulty defrost timer disrupts automatic defrost cycles. Common DIY fix restores proper temperature control.
Suspected it was the thermostat, since temperature stayed the same at multiple settings over a 24 hr period. There was only three components inside the freezer besides the evaporator, the fan was working, so I decided to just go ahead and replace the thermostat and defrost thermostat. Also replaced the defrost timer by the compressor, just to get all the old parts replaced with new. I had already replaced the compressor, so now I've pretty much have a new freezer. The new parts works great and... Read more

Refrigerator making loud noises or not cooling? A worn evaporator fan blade often causes these issues. DIY-friendly repair typically takes 30 minutes.
1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. One of the signs of this issue was a distinct change in sound when I opened the freezer door. I ordered a new motor and blade, not knowing exactly what it was. 2. I couldn't get water to dispense, so I changed the filter and that wasn't the problem. I ordered a water valve and crossed my fingers. These parts arrived... Read more

Replaced both The electrical board I found under the fridge was very easy to replace. The fan motor took a minute to bed puns and the biggest challenge was taking off/on the back panel to get to it. (By the way it was located in the freezer section. take drawers out to get to it. Read more
Ice maker stopped working or leaking water? This ice maker kit replaces failed units in about 10 minutes. Includes adaptor harness for compatibility.
After about three months of returning to my youth, filling ice cube trays, I decided to venture into the freezer and yank the old ice maker from its mounting. Since this was the third time this very ice maker had decided to stop functioning, it was time to get a replacement. I suspected the heating element was open and the motor was screaming trying to push the little frozen blocks of ice from their form, with distortion occurring. I ordered a replacement from this very company, received it... Read more

Frost buildup on freezer wall? Defrost thermostat monitors evaporator temperature to prevent ice buildup. DIYers report 15-minute installation fixes issue.
My Frigidaire side by side refrigerator/freezer suffered a catastrophic failure. The symptoms were as follows: 1) Frig not cold 2) No Ice being made in the freezer section 3) Items at the back of the freezer were frozen but items on the door shelves would not freeze. The back of the freezer was cold but the closer you got to the door the warmer it got. After removing everything from the unit I saw that there was substantial ice buildup on back of the freeze, specifically around the vents,... Read more
