Refrigerator not cooling but freezer works? A failed condenser fan motor prevents heat from escaping. DIY repair takes 10-20 minutes with basic tools.
Removed the back cover to access the fan area. Clean the area with brush and vac first. Unplugged the Refrigerator. Used a socket set with 1/4" socket. Had an extended and a standard socket. Removed the condensate plastic drain from the bottom of the refrigerator to have more access to the fan. Unplugged the fan motor. Removed the two screws holding the fan in place. Removed the fan unit from the condenser side of the bracket. Place new fan on the fan and installed exactly the way I removed the... Read more

Ice dispenser not working or only dispensing sometimes? The auger motor powers ice ejection from the storage bin. DIY-friendly repair in under an hour.
I first thought it was the auger in the ice container so I changed it and it was not the problem. I then talked to ApplianceParts customer service that it might be the yoke on the motor that turned the auger or even the motor itself even though it worked. I ordered the parts, the yoke was supposed to be able to be changed by itself but mind would not come off the motor shaft so I had to cut it off just to remove it from the unit so I had to change the motor anyway because of this. So I advise... Read more

Refrigerator making noise or not cooling? A broken condenser fan blade prevents air circulation. This friction-fit part installs in minutes—no tools needed.
I pulled the refrigerator out, removed the back panel, disconnected the fan motor. I did not know how hard or easy it would be to remove the fan from the motor shaft so I removed the motor with the fan attached and then removed and replaced the fan. This would not be necessary if you have a lot of strength, but if you need leverage to push the fan down on the shaft you might want to disconnect and remove the motor fan assembly too. After replacing the motor assembly and reconnecting I tested by... Read more
Fridge not cooling but freezer works? Squeaking or chirping noise? A failed evaporator fan motor stops cold air circulation. DIY repair with video guide.
My KitchenAid refrigerator was not cooling, but the freezer was working perfectly. The help section here listed three parts that could be defective–defrost thermostat, evaporator fan motor and blade, and air diffuser/damper control–so I replaced them all. The videos were EXCELLENT, and despite the difficulty I had squeezing my shoulders into the small freezer compartment, I installed the parts and my refrigerator is cooling perfectly! THANK YOU FOR THE EXCELLENT REPAIR VIDEOS! I am so happy... Read more
Mounting screw for refrigerator ice maker assembly. Secures components to maintain structural integrity. Replace if lost, stripped, or corroded.
Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy. The most irritating part was figuring out what parts to order. The drawing of the refrigerator door (Drawing # 4) used to figure out what parts to order was not clear. I paid $8... Read more

Replacement cap that seals the water filter housing and attaches to filter cartridges. Needed when cap is cracked, broken, or missing notches prevent secure fit.
Replaced filter cap with new one. The minor challenge was to find a method of pulling the filter out of refrigerator (which is normally done by pulling on the filler cap. The filter was recessed to far into the refrigerator for me to be able attach the new cap. I had to find another tactic to remove the filter. The solution was to look at the replacement filter to notice where two slots were located at the end of the filter. I then used a paint can opener (found at most paint stores) to slip... Read more
Water leaking from bottom of fridge? Cracked evaporator drip tray lets defrost water escape. Moderate DIY repair, about 45-60 minutes with our guide.
The drain pan (Tray-Evaporator Pan) was cracked in 2 places. We had to remove the front panel. Loosen the bracket that holds the water filter. Take off the back panel and disconnect the bracket that holds the selenoid. It was not necessary to unhook the water lines, just the bracket. It was not easy to remove the old pan and get the new one in, but holding the water filter, with the bracket intact, as far to the left side of the refrigerator as possible gave us the room to get the pan in. ... Fix an ice maker that stopped working or leaks water into the bin. This ice mold tray replacement takes about 10-20 minutes with our step-by-step video.
I have a Whirlpool Side-by-side Model ED22PWXBW01. A year ago, the ice cubes started freezing together in the rear of the ice bin for no apparent reason. Although the problem started off small, it gradually grew much worse, and finally I could see water dripping out of the ice mold and into the bin during the fill cycle. Re-levelling the refrig didn’t help, nor did adjusting the cube size / fill level. With guidance from the video, I removed the icemaker from the wall of the freezer. The... Read more
