Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice maker stopped producing ice   William W. • Southampton , NJ • July 31, 2015

My first hour: I investigated first by pulling out refridgerator to see if the water line hose was kinked. I started under the kitchen sink where it begins, coming from faucet water supply. Then I followed it to the back of the fridge to see if anything looked odd. Next I went to the ice maker itself. I investigated the ice maker by removing the freezer food sliding tray and hanging tray, and then unscrewing the door off the slides. When I looked inside at the ice maker, I saw the tube where... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Jennair jjw9630cas double oven doors did not close all the way and the light would not go out   Wayne W. • East Longmeadow , MA • February 13, 2016

I have a Jennair jjw9630cas double wall oven, and after a few years I noticed that the light would not go out, first in the bottom oven, and then in the top oven. After doing some research I discovered this was not uncommon, and the fix usually involved replacing the hinges and/or the hinge receptacles. It didn't look like a difficult fix so I ordered four new hinges and four new receptacles, which arrived quickly. I found a video on YouTube that showed how to replace the hinges and it... Read more

Refrigerator Pantry Drawer Endcap Kit
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10874836

Replaces broken or cracked endcaps that secure your refrigerator's pantry drawer. Kit includes left and right endcaps for complete repair.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The cover of the pantry drawer did not open due to a broken end cap pin   Eran G. • Summit , NJ • November 22, 2014

All you need is a nut driver. The end cap is attached to the side of the refrigerator cabinet with two long screws. Once you remove them, you should slide the end cap towards you. It will release the internal clip that holds the front of the end cap. You should then unscrew the metal slider from the end cap. Assembly of the new end cap is the reverse. You should first attach the metal slider to the new end cap. Attaching the new end cap to side of the refrigerator cabinet is a little tricky.... Read more

Refrigerator Ice Maker Assembly
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10884390

Fix a refrigerator that stopped making ice with this complete ice maker assembly. DIY-friendly installation takes about 10 minutes with basic tools.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The icemaker stopped making ice   Dennis B. • Reno , NV • October 10, 2014

I replaced the icemaker. It was fairly easy, with the most difficult part being access to the icemaker in the bottom freezer. I loosened two screws, removed one additional screw, disconnected the wiring and removed the old icemaker. I mounted the wiring harness and ice level sensor arm from the old unit onto the new icemaker and installed it with no problems. I wish I'd done this months ago instead of repeatedly attempting to repair the old icemaker. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Both the freezer and refrigerator stopped cooling   Raymond O. • Kerrville , TX • April 11, 2015

I have a Kitchen Aid side by side refrigerator/freezer which is 8 years old. One day it just stopped cooling. At first I was just going to junk it and purchase a new one. However, I took off the lower back cover and noticed the compressor was not running. I knew from experience that these compressors need a starter capacitor and relay and it is not uncommon for these parts to fail. I looked on the Internet for a video which showed how to remove the parts. I also found a video which showed how... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Refrigerator door gaskets were cracked and moldy   Allison O. • Sussex , NJ • June 29, 2019

I bought new gaskets, which were expensive! At least the repair was easy. Pulled out the old ones, pressed in the new ones. Had to redo them because I didn't notice the little flaps that need to be covering the space in the middle, between the doors. So, pulled them off, and turned them around, and pressed them on again. Maybe 10 minutes? Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Amana bottom freezer refrigerator has cold freezer warm refrigerator   Albert I. • Rio Rancho , NM • June 23, 2014

A bit of research on the internet indicated the most likely problem was with the defrost system. I found the service manual for the refrigerator and was able to determine that the defrost heater and thermostat passed the self test. The refrigerator would perform a forced defrost which resulted in a cold refrigerator. More research revealed that this particular refrigerator does not have a defrost timer, instead the defrost cycle is controlled via the Electronic Control board which is also... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge leaked every 2 3 days.   Mark D. • Cumberland , RI • October 19, 2019

The drain tube for for the defrost cycle seemed to be blocked, so I googled the repair & it sent me to AppliancePartsPros. Obviously, there's a design problem with this model since many other people have the same issue. This tube is an upgrade on the original for my KitchenAid model (design flaw). Since installation 4 days ago, I have had no leaks - awesome! The video for installation of the new tube on AppliancePartsPros was excellent. Two additions to the video: 1) I used a hair dryer... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Broken refridgerator interior plastic parts causing issues   Jim M. • Portland , OR • September 28, 2025

Looked up parts based on fridge model number, watched videos, and replaced parts using just a few tools... easy. Parts came quick, well packaged. After 16 years, plastic parts deteriorate and break. The fridge was operating fine, but the drawers and covers were failing. Much cheaper to replace a few parts ($$-$$$) than buy a new fridge ($$$$). The new parts matched up exactly to old ones. The videos were very helpful, but not perfect... for the Crisper Frame, there was a structural metal... Read more

Refrigerator Door Gasket
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: W10443320

Seals refrigerator or freezer door to maintain temperature and prevent ice buildup. Replace if doors won't stay shut or ice forms. Confirm fit by model.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Due to bad door seal ice built up in bottom of freezer water then leaking out   Christopher K. • Alexandria , VA • July 19, 2016

Door gasket was easy to remove and reinstall. Original gasket was penetrated while cleaning food stuff from folds in the seal below the frig doors. (Gasket is very fragile so don't try to expand the folds while cleaning. I used my finger and a paper towel but in hindsight should have used a Q-Tip. Also, when installing the new gasket you have to be sure the seam folds over the edge of the door and doesn't get caught underneath. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Rubber seal/gasket was torn on our refrigerator   Ken S. • Simi Valley , CA • November 23, 2021

The rubber seal/gasket was torn on our KitchenAid refrigerator right side door. I purchased the replacement and followed the directions/recommendations of how to prepare the new gasket for installation. When it's removed from the shipping box, it does have wrinkles and preparing it is a must. I set it out on our tile floor and then used a heat gun (low setting) to warm it up and massage it. It took me about 15 minutes, stopping and restarting as I let the rubber come back to it's desired shape.... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Light switch on bottom freezer compartment flakey (intermittant)   Alfred M. • Pahoa , HI • September 07, 2014

I watched the video on replacing the switch on a side freezer where prying out to original switch did not look difficult. I then got on the floor and tried to pry out my switch. Had a terrible time (locking tab or switch body hardened with time?) and mangled the switch terribly and the upper panel of the freezer somewhat, but the switch did come out. AND THEN the top freezer panel with the switch and light assembly fell out into my hands! I was able to unplug one Molex connector and the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrigerator ice maker was not working   Lydia I. • Miami , FL • September 19, 2014

After finding out the cost that we would have to pay for the repair locally, I went to Appliance parts pro.com. with the intention of finding out the cost for parts. We had been quoted $100 for the first hour which included repair if it could be done under the first hour plus parts. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Amana model afd2535deb freezer cold fridge too warm not defrosting   Dan R. • Woodruff , SC • November 09, 2015

Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. Obviously, the auto defrost cycle had not been running, or was short-cycling. Manually defrosted. Found this link for running diagnostic tests on the... Read more
